beating the scenario on fighter/scout gives a nice unit I would suggest trying a fighter.

ok call me lame but im having major issues with #6. i just cant seem to get it. is there a deck thats better suited for it?

imho no, I've beat the scenario on fighter mage and healer fairly easy.
I may try to build a scout deck but I'm a healer/mage deck builder. I think the fighter deck I built was easier in the sense that I could block most of the inc attacks, but it took me longer to kill him.
The Mage deck I had to be a little more careful, but as soon as I got my big hitters in play it was game over for him.
The healer deck was fairly easy, I'd let him smack me around a few times, heal myself up and then unloaded all of my units on him.

Dunno if this will help you or not, but all of my decks are shadow/neutral.

What exactly do you get from the painting? Is it just that a painting and the cockatrice is the only item that gives something in game?

You get a pretty cool looking painting and the golden cockatrice, the bird is the only thing that gives you in game items. So far I've gotten two Very Valuable eggs(like 88g if you sell) two very ordinary eggs(4c if sold) and two golden egg drop soup or something like that, food item with meh so so stats.

The 3 hour 50% speed drink you get from it is really nice as well.

I used a fighter deck, barbarians... sundered that gem like turn 2 or 3....northland illusionist his hoarde turn 5.... then veteran+rogues -= 6pt beats every turn for a couple rounds...seemed hard when trying to play defense, so I just built a beat down

yea it is harder playing defensive, my first round of beating him was with a mage deck all shadow, it took me a couple turns to get my good cards into play, but after that it was game over.

Well I can't say harder in defensive, but it wasn't no where near as fast.
