Yes, Pinski I posted that theory round a week ago. It would be a ways off and possibly unreachable and would take some number crunching. It's also assuming that crit modifier is assessed after the spell power modifier is assessed, which I would think and hope so.

It is, I've already tested how everything interacts. Just don't know the sweet spots plus it'd be sweet spots per spell.

Cinder Burst probably has a relatively low point where SC becomes > SP because of how much damage it does base.

Do you have ideas about a general formula? I could look at most spells or at least base damage ranges and get an idea of "this is when crit becomes valuable"

(((Base + Spell Power* Base Cast Time)*Damage Increase)*Crit)

Crit being 1.5 or 1.9(Tempest is sort of broken and doesn't exactly work right).
Base Cast Time for Instant is 1.5.

So, using my stats as an example for Void Bolt (1.5s cast time, so 2.5 including GCD)
    ((((136.5 + 141.2)*2.5)*1.5)*18.73%) = 195.04 average dps?

If Pinski's numbers are right, then I should be able to start plotting a chart that manipulates both variables. My gut said that Crit would be better when it reaches 50%, but I'll start crunching.

Just wow, just wow. You don't even know how cast times and the GCD works in this game. So please you shouldn't bother doing any sort of theory crafting until you figure that out.

Void Bolt has a base 2s cast time. Thus, you get 2s worth of Spell Power. You don't add the GCD, because the GCD starts when you start casting. Not only that but you can't even do math right.

    The correct math would be:
(((136.5+141.2*2)*1)*1.5) for your average crit. Drop the 1.5 for non-crit.
Soo 628.35 for crit and 418.9 for non-crit. Thus with 18.73% crit chance, your average hit should be around 458.13, and divide by the cast time(2!) and you get your DPS of 229.07.

Though nobody is calculating average dps because that doesn't matter in these calculations. We're calculating average hit, then you calculate average dps after you figure out what is worth what.

But if you're going Lock/Necro, you also have +5% Death Damage, +20% Damage. And of course 24% cast haste on Void Bolt, then another 5% crit too. So we now have the following equation.
    (((136.5+141.2*2)*1.25)*1.5)
    785.44 crit, and 523.63 non-crit.
So with 23.73% crit chance, your average hit is now 585.76, and your DPS is now 390.51 with just void bolt spam.

Alright, that makes sense thanks for explaining it.

I'm unclear on another thing you mentioned earlier, why are instants considered 1.5s cast time then? I thought it was .5+1s GCD.

I'll let the pros theorycraft, just want to understand.

Because the GCD is 1.5s and starts when you hit the ability. Have you never paid attention to your abilities when you're casting them?

Cast Void Bolt(1.5s with talents) and you didn't notice it was ready to start casting when it went off instantly?
