Default Spell power vs Spell Crit

Anyone have any idea how much spell crit is equal to how much spell power? Ive seen a lot of debates and opinion but little hard data to back it up.

Very rough mage gear & stat weighing spreadsheet!

If that guy's math is right, and mine is too, I think he's saying 1 SP = to about 4.87 crit, so you'd only want to give up 1 sp for 5 crit to see a dps increase, which would probably be so small you wouldn't see it.

I have no clue if his numbers are correct. Originally I was trying to amass crit, but after reading his post I've prioritized sp.

Interesting. Assuming the same basic idea applies to clerics (and I see no reason why it wouldn't), I need to rethink my gear choices. I had been amassing crit as well.

That also is assuming a 2s cast. Things start getting different when you have a 2.5s cast, or a 1.5s cast, instant cast, or 6s cast.

Somebody needs to test with a wider range of abilities, since right now only a 2s cast is looked at. Also, needs to see if cast haste affects how spell power affects abilities(I don't think it affects it, however).

Is crit suppose to be 1.5x max damage including spell power modifier?

If so, there would be a point where crit>sp although it may a long shot and currently unreachable right?

Crits are 1.5x damage, unless you have Tempest from the Elemental Summoner tree, which makes it's 1.8x damage.

I've been asking around on my server, and trying to read here, the official forums and RiftJunkies, and the above arguement/spreadsheet is the minority.

In general I assume the world is retarded and flames is right, and I'm inclined to feel that way here too. Unless you have the ES talent, crit gives 1.5x dmg * (crit chance as decimal) on average.

I have around 330 spell crit (at work, can't check), and 5% Crit from warlock talents on my main spec, putting me a little bit over 18% Crit. This means that for the 330 points I'm getting a little over 13%. I need more data points (which I'll get tonight), but this makes it look like Spell Crit 1 = .04%

So for 330 points I gain 1.5 * .13 = .195 or 19.5% damage. I don't know the exact comparison for spell power, but I'm betting it's more than that.

    (please help a noob clarify)
Admit it. You only came back to Atlanta for the hat.

Looking at this more and more.

SC scales with respect to how much SP you have. There is a point where you have enough SP that 1SC > 1SP.

It's not as simple as 1SP > 1SC. It's only that simple if you have near none. It also depends on how often you cast an ability, if you cast more abilities(or proc more through Burning Purpose), SC can get better faster.

Ugh, unlike EQ2 this isn't so simple and would require a lot more of my time than I thought.

For what I kown, you're right. This point depend on the spell base damages (the most damages he made, greatest is the SC effet) and the SP you already have (keep in mind that if you put à SC point, you get boni from SC on the base spell damages and from SC apply on the SP you already have)

With rift 1.1, a significant part of my math go wrong, so I need to keep working on it, but hope to have à sheet (translate in english, I'm à frog eater damn!) to calculate all that stuff in a few weeks.
