I am starting this thread because my wife (Xiani) and my guild (Fellowship of Caffeine) were recently slandered pretty badly on the 60_69 channel. We were called farmers and ninja-looters for competing with another group for the Kaladim ring event. I do not want these false accusations to carry on because we do like to get in on occasional pick-up groups and raids. We do not want the community thinking we are dishonorable players. I'm going to lay down some details here to the best of my knowledge...
When I logged in on my coercer (Katheil) in Kaladim, I saw that the Avatar ring event was up. I did not notice anyone fighting the event, so I told Xiani to come duo it with me. Shortly after, I saw a player named Snypes in the area, and he saw me. He sent me a /tell saying that he had a group coming, so I replied that I did as well. Snypes then acknowledged that we would be "fighting" for it. I interpreted this to mean that he knew this event was contested, so we were gonna have to compete for it. Anyway...
About 5 minutes later, Xiani and Snypes's group members showed up at the event area, pretty much at about the same time. So, Xiani and I were about to pull the first encounter, when we saw Snypes's group get aggro from something, and they wiped out. I don't know if they actually pulled a mob or not, but they did not kill anything before wiping. So, Xiani and I decided to get to work on the event now that they were gone.
After we cleared the first two encounters, Snypes's group had returned, and they started clearing the trash in the second room to progress the event. So the competition was back on, I guess. After all the trash in the event had been killed, the Avatar became attackable, Xiani and I claimed the Avatar first, and we got the kill. In total, we had cleared 4 out of 7 of the encounters to make the Avatar spawn.
We got flamed pretty hard in /say by Snypes and his group. They threatened to petition, have us banned, they called us farmers, yadda yadda... I wasn't really too concerned, I thought Xiani and I cleared the event fairly. But soon after, my character and my guild were being talked about harshly in the 60_69. We got called farmers and ninja looters, and it took us a good 20 minutes or so of conversation with the chat channel and Snypes's guildmate to convince them that we were not farmers or ninja-looters. Snypes claimed that, because he sent me /tells saying he had a group coming, we kill-stole the ring event.
I realize that people's standards on what makes a ring event yours can vary quite a bit. But I think most will agree that just standing next to the event and claiming that you are going to fight it does NOT make it your event, especially when none of your group members are there and you have not killed anything in the event yet. I did not expect for Snypes to yield just because I was standing there, waiting for my group member. So why did he think that I was not entitled to fight the event as well? I do not understand why he thinks that I have done something dishonorable.
My real concern is this: the Fellowship of Caffeine is a small family guild. We are definitely no raiding guild, but we do like to join occasional pick-ups. And we DEFINITELY do not farm stuff for real-money trading. (Several of our members actually go "farmer hunting" to deal with these pests.) However, Snypes's guild, New Outriders, is a very large guild, and I am afraid that Snypes's false remarks will be heard out before anyone gives a thought to us. I tried to reconcile with Snypes, apologizing for the anger and frustration that the competition caused, but he still remained hostile to us. So, I just want the good folks of Mistmoore and New Outriders to have a look at our side of the story, if you haven't already. I don't want my family being denied groups and raids because of these false accusations.
