Default Re: making a monk as soon as i post this

well theres no turning back now i am level 33 and i am leveling with a group of friends. thanks for the replies. I just asked cause at level 80 my main plan is not to tank but the play the role of the class in the raid with the buffs and dps but since i read quite a few times that you could tank i chose it to play something different I am part of a guild that moved last week from wow to eq and i will be the only monk in the raid so i guess i will be able to fullfill my role hopefully adn the healer i got in the leveling group is 6 stars instead of 5 so then i guess i am ok. Got one more question:

What weapons you guys recomend wraps or knukles and stuff?

Thanks again to all that posted =)

For leveling weaps dont really matter all that much, just make sure you dual wield with the same delays on each weapon. When you get to 80 which will be pretty fast you want to immediatly do your epic quest, it will get you a 2.5 delay weapon you will need to pair it up with another 2.5 delay wepaon and you are good to go.

Thank you. I went from 1-70 fast, saved on a buncha weapons. (toon was made in EoF)
Yeah now that I can understand if your grinding lvls its fine as you would be constantly swapping weapons otherwise. I just remember being in a couple KoS raids with monks/bruisers barefisted thinkin its a DPS spec while they had both twin calamities in their bags LOL!

My response when they asked how I was outparsing them by so much was "Try using weapons" LOL! I was in a large guild and it was nothin to be on raid with 4 monks and multiples in same group so it wasnt the buffs. at lvl 70 I was hittin 2k dps while others where at 800-1k dps so big difference.

I did try it at 70 and again at 80 because so many people swore it was a better dps style for monks and at 80 I consistently capped at 2500 dps.

So let me see if i got you right we can do better dps with weapons instead of fistwraps? or knuckles? i though using one handers and such was a no go for us?

Pretty much just ignore the last little bit. Up until the launch of the most recent expansion the STR line on the monk KOS tree was for brawlers who wanted to fight bare fisted. That means no weaps at all. It was a good path for leveling but it doesnt work anymore.

Here is what you should do as you level

2 weaps dual wielded with the same delay. End of story. When you get to 80 do your epic and get a matching 2.5 delay for it.

EDIT: A 2 hander is actually quite fine for leveling, however, it is really not helpful to your development in the class, in the end you will be dual wielding so spending 1-80 with a 2 hander then switching to DW really isn't going to help get you up to snuff as fast.

I Agree

AA spec minimum I would use is INT line 4,4,8 and wis line - all till u get crane flock, the rest is up to u and your play style.

Pretty much whats said here, we just digressed a bit about the old Str line i guess, my bad. I have that tendency to just keep talking and going off topic ... like now!

You wouldn't go down the strength line for Double attack/debuff/chi first? CRIT rate / eagle / under 30% buff is a better starting path for monk?

This is the path I took for my bruiser (str first/then INT), and I just started bringing my monk up in level. Should I start him with INT?

CHI is sux for a monk, but STR stuff is good too.

CHI is good for bruisers but this is a monk forum and sux for us, points better spent in the AGI line then getting chi.
