Default Monk, a purpose.

Hey all,
I'm currently a 45 monk with 39 AA's (main, but i have parents with 80's) workin' my way up and the though occurred to me... What the hell is my class at this point?

AA's are currently Str 4-4-8-8-2, Int 4-4-4.

I'm sitting on 5k hp, about 6-7k avoidance, and 1-1.4k mitigation. So is that tanking level?

My damage is good enough for me to solo and all, but I don't know where it should be falling.

I've been reading these forums, trying to see where I should be fitting into, but I'm kinda lost. Of course I know I'll never be healing or nuking worth a damn, but where in the group do I fall until high end or should I just keep going alone until then?

Perhaps you're addressing this the wrong way.

Why did you roll a monk? What do you want to become? A tank? A Nuker? A farmer?

Monk is quite a balanced class. You can tank, but you'll never be the best tank. You can do dps, but you won't top parse.

So, what do you want to be?

In a word, useful.
I like the thought that I can tank for groups, or I can kick up the dps and come in close enough to the top. But I just don't see myself pulling that off at my current level. I guess I'm just trying to find a baseline to compare to.

Well monks are considered a fighter which in turn means tank. Theoretically monks where better dps than their plate fighter counterparts by a good margin two years ago, but in the past seven months that dps advantage the monk has is now deminishing.

Single target monks will and should be higher than the plate fighters but not by a large margin like it once was.

Monks are very versitile for a fighter. Decent at tanking, dps, soloing, and groupability but not really able to shine at any one department.

Most generally the pure dps classes will always beat monks on the parse. So relying on a monk getting into groups as dps is not very promising when others can do it better.

Tanking wise monks can get the job done but only suffer on big ae fights.

Other than that monks are a fun class.

Get an AA mirror, and save one tank-spec and one dps-spec.

Keep two sets of gear and jewelery, one for when you need to tank (high agi, high mitigation/avoidance, also high sta if possible), and one for when you're asked to dps (high str, +crushing/slashing). Macro them so you can change them with one click.

Try to get Master scrolls for each of your stances and for your taunts.

Do this and you'll notice some improvements.
