Default new damage spells and DPS

ok 2 i hope easy questions to ans the new damage spells is it worth geting them made ad3 or should i just stick with the AA line damage spells and also for when i whant to dps do i go for +spell damage or combat spell damage to improve me DPS

Shaz, for the combat arts you want things that are +combat art damage. + spell will have no effect with those. Personally I don't see it changing and being melee the way to go.

I was told +CA dmg doesnt work on our AA abilities the same way they don't work for inquisitors, since they aren't normal CA's but AA abilities. Has this changed?

I did some tests last night with 2 items quest reward :
-> Regimental Chainmail Shirt with +20 CA damage
-> Bonedigger Decorated Belt with +25 spell damage

Lvl 73 mystic VS lvl50 female caiman at SS dock

0 item :
Feverish Strike description : 273-333, dot 256
ACT parser : 389, dot 333/333/333

Glacial Strike description : 409-500, dot 256-313
ACT Parser : 609, dot 361/343/338/343

Shirt only :
Feverish Strike description : 293-353, dot 260
ACT parser : 385, dot 338/338/338

Glacial Strike description : 429-520, dot 260-318
ACT Parser : 573, dot 409/345/356/348

Belt only :
Feverish Strike description : 273-333, dot 260
ACT parser : 434, 25, dot 338/338/338

Glacial Strike description : 409-500, dot 260-318
ACT Parser : 544, 25, dot 396/373/342/410

Shirt and Belt :
Feverish Strike description : 293-353, dot 265
ACT parser : 457, 25, dot 343/343/343

Glacial Strike description : 429-520, dot 265-323

Conclusion :
+CA damage change CA description, +spell damage don't.
It's difficult to see +CA damage because of the damage range, but +spell damage boost our CA.

Can you also make tests?

am i understanding you right? our AA melee abilities get boosted by + spell dmg and by + CA dmg aswell? wow thats great i didnt think they got boosted by anything..

I did new tests.
6 fights without cloak and 6 fights with Tanara cloak (+50 spell and +50 CA) against Nathsar monsters.

The description of our direct damage CA don't change.
The first tick of our damage over time CA get increased by 50.

Circle of the ancients
-without cloak : 1256
-with cloak : 1206

Chilling strike
-without cloak : 872
-with cloak : 855

Our direct damage don't seem to be boosted

Feverish Strike
-without cloak : 666 + dot
-with cloak : 696 + 50 + dot

Glacial Strike
-without cloak : 439+ dot
-with cloak : 507 + 50 + dot

Our damage over time seem to be booster by +ca damage and +spell damage !

I'm not sure how you are doing this test, but I can tell you the results I got are very different.

+CA damage boosts ALL of our CA's from our melee AA line.

Chilling Strike and Circle of the Ancients gets the boost straight up. I tested using a +50CA item and swapped out with another item of comparable +Strength. Strength of course increases our CA damage like any other class that uses CAs.

Feverish Strike and Glacial Strike work just like any other DoT. They both receive a boost from +CA effects to the initial damage they deal. The DoT component gets no increase from +spell damage. In addition, the DoT components are increase by InT instead of Str. I guess that makes sense, but I wish is still checked Str for the DoT.

There are some goodies out there for us though. My raid spec for DPS will most likely be a combination of Reet Knight Helm and Trooper Scale Boots with a few +CA damage and DA items. Boosting Strength is gonna be the key since we'll reach the BoE/CA cap through the Reet helm and Trooper boots quite easily. Strength will be the limiting factor for reaching the ceiling of our DPS since it can push more out of those 2 procs. I don't quite see too many DA items so if there is enough of that around we could have a few more options.

I made the tests only on 12 battles using ACT.
Results would perhaps differ on more numerous battles.

It would be normal to get +ca damage on our attacks...


The most important thing is that our dot are increased by +spell damage.

We can easily see it during battle, first tick is directly followed by the bonus.
