Default Question about combat Mystics.

I've been reading various forums about how to build a decent combat Mystic. Obviously I'll be getting the combat arts lines and the Shaman Agility line. However, when I'm leveling up, which will help me more if I get it first? The crits in the AGI line look like they would help a lot. Right now I have one point in the doggy and one point in the very first combat ability that replaces Chilling Winds. Should I get crits first or my combat abilities first? Thanks!

Hits probably, the crits really won't do you any good except auto attacking. though you probably could just go back and forth until maxed too.

Thanks! I'll keep working on my combat abilities then.

I thought the crit chance affected combat arts too?

The melee crits do affect combart arts, for certain, and help a great deal. I would still go down the combat line in Mystic tree to avoid needing to purchase upgrades as you level. Also save str chain gear with melee bonuses on it until you can find good str/wis gear, wis is very important but you really shouldn't run out of power that often unless you're raiding.

I'd even suggest going all the way and picking up weapon mastery. Hindsight, it seemed to help my mystic a LOT more than rage, or the crits. The skill bonus to crushing and piercing helped significantly reduce misses on auto-attacks and CAs.

Yes the crits do effect combat arts.. this is why mystic soloing is so badass! I would go combat arts first (at least until you have 2 or 3 combat arts) and then go straight for 100% crits and then go back and finish your CA line. max it out!

If you are talking about AA's for soloing my personal choice would be to go for the Combat Arts for a few reasons.

First, They scale with you as you level so you don't need to buy new versions of spells as you level and with 5 points in any of them they are as strong (or stronger) as a Master of the Spell equivalent for me.

Second, Trying to attack mobs with long casting timer spells vs fast CA's isn't even worth taking time to compare. The amount of spell restarts and interrupts is retarded. With CA's you preward yourself (group ward then single target) and jump in and beat your mob like the XP Pinata he is. You should be able to have most mobs dead before you need to heal or reward yourself.

However, don't overlook the Augmentation line. Your self STR/HP buff with 5 points puts a really good dmg proc on many of your Auto-attacks. Putting points into Avatar will benefit you too. So, CA's first, Augment 2nd. AGI line 3rd IMHO.

Something else to think about.

Make 2 sets of gear. 1 for healing. 1 for soloing. Scout gear with some choice stats like str, stamina.

Will help out.

Look for gear with like +dps or + combat arts. Instead of +melee crits once you get 100% melee crits.

good idea for solo / grp imo, but if u plan on raiding i would suggest pretty much incorperating your dps gear into your normal healing gear. i just use a haste item (belt) DPS ring, and a 2hander. other then that i wear my normal healing gear. its helpfull for if the shit his the fan you dont have your dick in your hand with no +heal +mana regen gear, all the while you can still do good dps.
just my 2 cents

I tend to agree with Thuger. Although I do have a full all out heal set vs a mix set for when I'm dpsing.

When I know it's going to be a tough fight, and/or am in a group where I won't be able to do my best dpsing anyway (mage group) I'll just stick to my heal gear and not worry so much about dpsing, and focus on debuffs and heals.
