Default Re: Ward casting order help

I think there is a rhythm & tempo to being a mystic and healing on raids. It’s like driving a stick you can either rely on the tac to tell you when to shift or you can listen to the car and get a feel for it.

I strongly agree that wards are proactive healing vs reactive healing.
For example be in the ot group and let your ot pick up a mob cold with no wards up on him. As a mystic we don’t play “catchup” all that well. It’s our job to anticipate the damage and negate it when it happens. THAT’S what keeps us on the parse because before those reactives and hots fire off it has to eat through our wards first.

Do I overwrite my wards that are expiring? You bet your sweet ass I do. Does that make me any less of a healer or a mystic then “Joe Knee Jerk” warder? Hell no.

Its also different depending upon the tank you’re healing. If you have a good tank who can take the hits, knows how to use his defensive & temp buffs to keep himself up and can handle spike damage fairly well then that’s a plus. Maybe in that case there is not so much of a need to be right on top of that prewarding. But if you have Mr. “I’M BUCKLER SPECED GO HARD OR GO HOME, HEAL ME! WTF IS TOWER OF STONE?” then yea your probably gonna want to be a little heavy handed on keeping him prewarded.

Watch your tank and see what type of shield he has in. Is he rotating shields? If so when he has his buckler in he’s going for more dps and feels that the healing is sufficient or not as big of a deal. Did he swap to a tower shield? He’s either expecting spike damage, feels a little shaky about his healing or needs that extra defensive edge it provides him. Of course if your tank has his mythical this part is a little different.

If you’re in the ot group and a zerkers the ot? Just keep the wards up cuz you know that crazy bastards casting open wounds & destruction stacked with juggernot (however you spell that) and gib. You have a crusader as your ot? Well.. swap groups nothings keeping em up other then there bloodletter or your save from death spell (/tease).

If your concerned with staying on the heal parse keep those wards up and when your waiting for them to refresh don’t forget stoicism! And patch heal like mad.

Is there more to raid healing then pressing 3 buttons over and over? Yes. I love the mystic class. I have always kinda looked at it as it’s my job to prevent the damage, any damage that seeps through my wards let the templar’s reactives or the druids hot’s take care of that.

But as for casting order of wards do your single target ward then your group ward. If there is any amount of the single target ward remaining by the time you get done casting your group ward and stoicism that should convert to a heal (yeaaa remaining amount on a ward in raid zones?). Also if you want to bolster your parse numbers a bit go down the str line with your dog max out his aura of warding, give him your name and make sure you send him in to fight. (I don’t like that line I don’t use it myself). And for the love of god make sure your dog is behind the mob so it doesnt eat repost!!!

Get you’re overloaded heal gear to!!! Its very nice esp. if your grouped with a templar who has blessings.

Cast Ancestry on you and when DPS bitches about it tell em to STFU.

If you have your mythical make sure to boost your wisdom (elixirs of piety etc).

Adorn your gear with +to heals / heal crit %.

PARSE YOURSELF. Get ACT learn how to use it and WATCH yourself consistently (don’t rely on any other persons parse).

Now the next zillion post to follow will tell you how I got it all wrong. =) I parse well and keep my tanks alive… I have to be doing something right. =)

Oh yea and every now and then when a group member dies tell them you let them drop just as a reminder you hold there life in your hands!

In raid (MT Group) I use my wards in the same order as you...ST, GW, ST. However I was being told last night in a group in an instance (I was only healer) to start with GW, then ST. My GW wards for 4500+ and ST ward for ?? 17-1900 ??. Can the T eat the entire 4500 or is it allocated when dispersed?

In this thread I saw little mentioned about Bolster...I usually cast Bolster on prepull and prior to casting either ward...casting ST in prepull and GW to land at initial hit +or-. Is there a more effective use of Bolster than that?

Stoicism I do not cast until the MT is settled in and not moving around...as they tend to get frustrated with the slow. I usually don't cast it at all in a fight like the Twins in Kor' Sha as the T's are usually moving around a lot and slowing them from intercepting the MOB would be devastating.

Pre-pull, order doesn't really matter all that much. Casting GW first gets the refresh timer ticking and so it comes back up faster.

Don't forget Ancestral Sentry. If you've got a mob that doesn't AE right off the top, you can pre-cast it.

Few things i'd mention is that the timing of the group ward whilst fighting is huge.

Yesterday in Korsha, the MT was taking large amounts of spike damage, and I stupidly started to cast the group ward when he had like 50% health left.

Typically just as the ward was about to land and proc like 5/6 overloaded healing items the tank died. 4.9 secs casting time on the group ward is a nightmare on raids, I cannot wait for the LU with the speed casting buff that comes with coercive healing.

I am still tempted to farm SOF for that robe that increase casting speed by 10%.

But if you cast ST first, then GW, ST will be up soon (cast it) and by the time that is done GW will be up again.
And if my wards are getting eaten through fast, I will make sure ST is up before I start group ward.
