One trick I like to use is ST - GW - ST.

Cast and recovery usually makes this work perfectly. I try to fit everything around that.

One thing that really annoys me is Mystics who want to know how much is remaining on their Wards. WTF? Who cares? If your's is up, friggin' cast it!

Warding is pro-active. If you have a Ward available to cast, cast it already. Don't worry about what you are overwriting, or whether the tank needs it. Put it up there.

Gonna have to diasgree with you there, "casting when its up" tactic is a very bad idea, if you do this youll often find your tank spiking and you have nothing to compensate with becuase u alread blew all your wards b/c they were up. watch the amount left on the ward and time your stuff so they land when your current one is going to be expired, or used up.

as far as pre pull goes, i stack grp and single, and have my grp casting as the mob is inc so it lands a 1-2 sec after its placed and is beating on the tank

We're talking raids right? As in there are other healer types there that are made to deal w/spike dmg way better than a shaman? Just checking.

If they're up cast'em. Keep stoicism on whomever's tanking the mob. Besides the only time it matters how much is left on your ward is when it's 0.

Yes let me spam my wards and let a crit + arm ward be overwritten by a normal one. but thats a good idea b/c its up! spamming and smart casting is what seperates the good players and the scrubs.

For me, it depends on what group I'm in.

If the tank in my group is pulling, then typically I'll single, then group ward. Land a single ward again a second or two after the mob is pulled, pop torpor them proceed to debuff. I find the refresh timers on my wards allow the smoothest casting for the pull before the mob is debuffed etc.

If I'm in a OT group, or a group that won't have any mobs directly attacking, I'll just have my group ward up, then torpor (bolster too if I feel like the tank is going to need that much help)

I'll echo Thuger here and say that keeping a watch on how much is left on your wards will 100% make things go smoother for you. Spamming them as they come up is a waste of mana (not too big of an issue anymore) and casting time when you could be doing any number of other useful things.

Edit: Also keep in mind the first in first out rule. (I'm pretty sure this holds true still but I haven't gone and tested it again in a long time) Meaning, the first ward you cast is the first to take damage and be used up.

When I am MT/OT healing I like to keep stoicism up before the other wards, so that it's damage is absorbed first. Something like Stoicism->ST->Group, and then cast the ST and Group wards as needed.

I think ward spamming is a bad idea. Not only can you overwrite a crit / super ward with a less powerful ward, but there are things you could be doing other than spamming wards, such as fitting in a debuff or DPSing. I keep track of the time and remaining absorption of all my wards, and if the ward is down I will recast it, but if it is still up I look at two tings:
  1. How much time is left on the ward (If only a couple seconds remain on the ward then I will recast it).
  2. How much absorbtion is left on the ward (If my ward has not been damaged then I will not recast it).
I use profit UI and keep my maintained window right next to my hotbars and group window so that I can see exactly how much time and absorption my wards have left.

hmm, i have always been high on the parse..able to keep my tank alive ect..but i think its more subtle then just saying "cast this now" now "cast this". Gear plays a pretty big roll in the equation also. Make sure your maintained spell bar is up so that you can see whats up, whats down ect.. On the mt, if agro is good I am putting stoicisms up and letting the MT defiler handle wards unless things get crazy. Now, if your the only healer in a group or have another healer again dictates how I am going to be healing. If have have a secondary healer and the OT is going to be tanking, I will focus on him primarily (tank dies we all die). Of coarse I still use group stuff. If i am the only healer in a group (pretty much any t1-t2 zone) I am watching agro prone dps..being proactive with group stuff and focusing single target where needed.

All of that is contingent on if I didn't just say fuck my group I am dps tonight..rofl.

I guess my point is spell timing and all that shit is important..but healing is kind of an art honestly. You just know..
