So to clarify/confirm: both of the TSO AA's that increase spell damage work on the CA versions as well (assuming elem/nox base dmg)?

yes (I examined the melee CA's before and after I grabbed the achievements, so 100% sure the base damage is affected, and one could safely assume the critical part is as well)

Awesome and useful thread -- my question is: What is the best way to proceed in choosing the achievements? By that I mean what should someone get first?

I am level 53 right now, and I have the 88% crit, Chieftain ability and Tribal rage. However, I am not sure where to progress to next? Improving DogDog through the STR line or going for DA in STA line -- which pisses me off since I don't use a shield and the SOE devs, in their infinite wisdom force you to waste AA points on an ability that you won't use.

Any advice is much appreciated.

You don't need to wear a shield to get the DA...

That's correct. But you are forced to spend points on an AA ability you may very well not use. That was my issue.

It also requires a staff to be equipped, right? I'm coming back from a long hiatus but IIRC I'd rather use the spear abilities from Str and Sta.

nope, NONE of the AA abilities require a specific item to be equipped (no exceptions to my knowledge; except of course the implied: +shield block etc. requires a shield equipped...)
