I believe the reason why you couldn't figure it out is because you have the logic behind the puzzle wrong. While you do need every row, column AND diagnal to add up to a number, the number is not 32 but it is 34. The whole jist of this puzzle is to get every row column and diagnal to equal 34 while using the numbers 1 - 16. The solution looks like this (not sure how it will format on a message board but I don't feel like doing one in paint).
