scout pet works fine up untill rok raids, after that the mage pet should be used due to melee hitting at a lower %.

Except, if the group buffs your mage pet better, why the fuck would you use your scout pet?

well pre rok my parses were not all that different from mage to scout pet. I admit it doesnt make much sense but thats the way it was. Since RoK though, the difference has become very real due to hit %.

Yep, at a minimum you are losing the benefit of Aria of Magic and POTM with the scout pet if you are in the troub grp.

aye i agree with you ) combine loss of buffs with the hit % prob and there is no reason to ever use scout for dps in RoK.

Default Re: Question for all you raiding necro's...

I used my AA mirror to make one scout spec AA and one mage AA setup. I have all pet and all pet buf master

For me, the choice between pets is not as clear cut as many of seem to think and here is how I currently switch spec:

If a monk is present in the raid mage pet benefit more then scout pet

If you with a troubadour and illu in your group mage pet benefit the most.

But with only 1 out of the 3, (I am usually with a troub but with no illu and we almost never have a monk in raid) the scout pet wins for me by a pretty large amount.

Without illu/monk and using scout pet I normally parse 4th ZW in my raid (after the 3 assasins and above everyone else). (except for VS when my parse are fairly weaks)

To me the benefits of the scout pet are as follow :

1) it does more damage in short figth due to shadosteps (make sure u have a macro that does : 1-pet backoff 2- Shadowstep so u can reuse shadowstep if up midfight)

2) my scout pet actually proc the necromantic brand all the time so it further debuf disease of the mob and increase my own dps a little

3) The scout pet actually work well with vampirism (before pull, cast vampirism on pet, when you shadowstep at pull, the orb will shadowstep as well, by that I dont mean they will execute a shadowstep but the orb will instantly be next to mob) and since the vampirism is cast before pull you dont waste time with the silly long cast time)

4) Scout pet gains a lot from gluttony

Mage pets on the other hand gains from

1) Illu in caster group helps mage pet more then scout pet

2) Monk in raid seems to help mage pet more (i have very limited parse with monk, we had one ONCE)

3) Legendary epic help mage pet and i am not even sure it actually does anything to scout pet. I dont have mythical yet but i think mythical will force

Anyway for t1 to t2, without monk in raid (and without illu in group) my scout pet seems to beat my mage.

For me, using mage pet gains about 100 each from dissonant note and precise note , loose about 100 from consume and 65 from vampirism .

I am neither not top geared or incredibly good. I parse 3K - 3.2K zw consistantly without illu and monk using scout pet in PR or thuga. (I know that is far from 6K sabutai parsed in PR)

Make sure they realize that INT and STA are their two most important stats. I raided with another necro that did not realize that INT actually effected their dps and after he learned that, he had to adjust most, if not all, his gear to reflect that.

Have them pretty much use rot, coil and lifetap as much as they can, and use those 3 spells whenever they're up, swarm pets and debuffs whenever those are down.

Also, what helps a little bit, you can cast swarm pets on pull or start dpsing a little earlier than most others, only because we don't have all our dps coming from one source (unlike wizards/warlocks and high parsing scouts) so we get to get away with starting things a little earlier, hehe...

Also helps having bertoxx as their deity, even though the cloak from them is pretty worthless, lol. Take a look at Sabutai's post on Best Rok gear available. A lot of gear you get from quests are pretty nice until raid content, and even some isn't replaced.

And never, ever stop casting... they shouldn't be having power problems unless they have things like blood pact up all the time, but there's no reason to, especially if you have people calling ae's. Giving the necro's ample time to setup Blood pact so their pet doesn't die from ae's and such.

Completely off topic... I'm pretty sure that alot of other necro's and especially warlocks will agree that the funnest fight so far in RoK is the 6 man epic fight in PR... If everything goes the way I plan, having everything setup before we pull, I can usually outdps everyone on the raid by about 1k or more, lol. On that fight, I think my best parse on it was about 5.5k or 6k I think... and our warlock being the next one in line, hehe... sorry Rouk!

I am pretty sure it is the casting order or the dirge is not debuffing disease or not refreashing it, something Calamity.

Also, there is a gap with reuse timers that you can have them cycle in Bloodcloud and Pandemic if they are using the correct casting order. They should be casting those spells even on solo mobs.

I think 3K+ is fair depending on group makeup.

I'm pretty sure it's because they suck.

If not knowing Int affects your dps or that you can cast AE spells on single targets are the issues, you have bigger problems with them than just dps.

Just out of curiosity. Is there any quick and fast way to see how you're doing at dps without bashing up a whole raid force a going for <insert phat epic mob here>?
