Default crit damage; please help a noobie

so, a respec and a set of overpowered lvl 72 Mastercrafted later, i now have a wooping 25% crit. it's time, then, to understand how crits work. "special" crit considerations were mentioned in passing several times in this thread with respect to +spell dmg vs +%base:
http://www.eq2flames.com/necromancer...lp-noobie.html

since at the time my crit was around 3%, i decided it wasn't worth it to side-track that thread. so.... questions:

1.
How is crit damage calculated? Is it...
a) Normal hit. Crit roll success. Normal hit * X?
b) Crit roll success. Max hit * X?

2.
What is the damage multiplier X?

3.
Only 1st dot tick can crit, yes?

4.
On an AE spell, is every target's crit calculated separately? I know the resists are calculated on each target.

5.
Crits are affected by +%base gear, yes?

6.
How +spell dmg affects crits is pretty straight forward since +spell dmg just changes the min-max. But does the fact that it's a crit affect the +spell dmg cap? This would be possible in theory if answer to question 1 is b)

i'll see if i can easily test some of these later tonight myself; just wanted to start this as a placeholder and may be get some freebie answers

i'm kinda having trouble with displaying crit spells properly in my combat log tho it's just a stream of numbers (not even "Your SoulRot hits a ghoul for 243", just "243").

many thanx in advance

Crit is calculated as max(normal hit * X,top end damage +1) for spells and melee/ranged autoattack. For CA's (and heals I think) it's only normal hit * X.

2.

30%, or 1.3, however you like to think of it

3.

all ticks crit

4.

if the AE crits, it crits on all targets that it lands on, but yes, damage is calculated separately on each.

5.

theoretically yes :P

yes, a crit, in theory, affects the amount of +spell damage you can use.

Replies in red. Also, when I say in theory, I'm speaking to the fact that while numbers may display one way in a mouseover the working theory right now is that in fact, +spell damage gets applied considering only INT based modifiers (or something like that) so the actual numbers people are seeing don't seem to consider anything else.
