Vampirism - help a noobie out
I just hit 80 and trying to figure out for myself just what is the purpose of this spell, but due to mostly soloing and overall retardedly uncontrolled nature of the spell "figuring out" is going slowly. Yes i've heard from various sources that it's retarded - it's a sore point I know. But please bear with me and suggest the best uses for it that you've found, to make the best of this sorry thing.
There is absolutely no valuable info about the mechnics of this spell on the description itself, which makes it kinda tough to guess.
* Orb is summoned - what determines X,Y position of its summon? I have an enemy targeted...
* Full duration is 45sec - what does the orb do in those 45 secs? Does it do drain health every second, every 3 secs, etc ? Also transfer of health happens every second, 3sec, etc or in 1 chunk upon ending?
* Damage and Healing - what's the damage / healing like? Is it even worth casting if it can somehow survive all 45secs? What's the damage type (disease /heat / etc)? What's the damage / healing change like when going from AD3 to M1?
* AE damage / healing - I'm assuming it's like Bloodcloud AE. Does it break Mez? Does healing per ally depend on total number of allies (ie is total damage done split among total allies)?
* Early termination conditions - does self-inflicted damage count towards "Vampirism ends early of that ally receives damage"? Example: Lich, damage shields, falling damage, health -> mana conversions, self-damage procs (ala BTC)?
* Vampirism best practices - well, clearly it's not working for me while soloing. I want to label it useless for soloing - confirm? Orb is summoned near my pet and poofs the very next swing that the mob lands a hit on pet. Only uses I can conceive are on a raid in a caster group well out of AE range:
1. If it doesn't break mez, slap it in middle of mezzed mobs
2. If it breaks mez, then only real use is on mobs whose AE is avoidable by casters and have no damage shield and self-inflicted damage doesn't stop it early.
Any other general words of experience and wisdom, other than this is clearly a poorly-conceived brainfart?
