Regarding the scout pet, I experimented with the Conjuror version in VP. It does fairly well compared to the non-mythical Mage pet...
if you can get melee buffs for it. The only way that's gonna happen is if you're grouped with classes that buff melee (Dirge, Coercer, Illusionist, Berserker, Mystic mainly). Even then the buff your pet
needs (IA from an Illy for example) would be
much better placed on an actual player, even if it's a Troubador.
And to be honest, if you can help it, why would you stick a Necro or Conjuror in a Melee DPS group in the first place instead of a Rogue or Predator? Your place is in a Mage DPS group, where the Mage pet will benefit the most and the Scout pet won't be worth shit.
I'd love to see a useful Scout pet for non-raiding if it had very good single target DPS.

In TSO this seems to be true, but in RoK 90% of fights it was safe to let your mythical pet go in and /pet melee, unless the mob has some assrape distance based AoE (Silverwing) or some nasty reactive (Druushk, Trakanon, Venril Sathir).
