Icon14 Specifically how far behind is Necro DPS?

There are lots of posts about how Necro DPS is way behind other Mage DPS.

Exactly how far behind is Necro DPS, compared to say a Wizard? Assuming in both cases top end gear, top end player behind the keyboard, perfect raid AA setup, perfect spell rotation, etc.

Is it 5%? 10%? More than 10%?

Depends on the fight. If both the necro and the wiz have their perfect raid setup, both players behind each toon know their class, spell orders, and gear; then the wizard will come out on top for shorter fighters.

As necro, because of our dots and mana pools, can keep a consistent dps going throughout the fight rather than spike dps like a wizard. Which, in the long term fighters, will mean a necro is on top. Short term, wizards.

And no, I dont play a wizard, and I say fuck Rays whenever a wizard is in my group.

ZW on palace trash wizard in my group (with TC) was doing ~11k and I was doing ~9k with UT. (note: I suck.) RWDPS was around 115k.

Personally, I don't think Necro DPS is behind at all. I see some Necros topping the parse when they're on top of their game OR, like the person said above, in situations that are more suited for a summoner's full potential. I.e.- longer fights/names/whatever.

If necros had the DPS of a Wizzy or, frankly, any other mage class.. on top of the extremely strong pets (Yes, they are strong. I parse the necro in our raid every raid and her pets do 80% of her dps. Mine do like 7% max) and the ability to solo pretty well with tainted heals, they would be gods.

I know necros who are consistently at the top of the parse even in raids. It's all about knowing your class and what helps them the most. For example, as a chanter I cast extremely fast so procs help my dps more than maybe the 1 or 2 spell crit I sacrifice by adding a proc item. For necros, that may not be the case. I don't know.

Either way, not to be harsh, but either learn your class and try harder, or change classes. :P

Too many people play necromancers (or conjurors, or any class that feels sub par) bitch because they actually take some work to be good, and then other classes suffer the wrath of the nerf bat. It's dumb.

I find it REALLY hard to believe that the necro in your raid has 80% of their dps done by their pets...

We are a bit behind the curve with some of the other classes dps wise, but not by much imo. The main thing that we lack is utility, there's been talks about giving us "rogue" type debuffs sometime in the future, but that's all I've heard. Hell, atm, wizzies bring more dps utility with velium gift/iceshape then we do. And hearts don't count as utility, they suck.

no necro pet does 80% of their parse for them unless the necro is afk and parsing shit.. so for saying that you sir are a noob

second necros are indeed behind in dps but with the right support they can put up respectable numbers.

I'm pretty sure these hypotetical perfect raid setups are going to have some enchanters and bards. Are these wizards running around with sprint on, or is manaburn fasionable again?

Honestly, it's shorter fights that let something like lifeburn dominate some parses.
