Default A few questions:

New necromancer here Anyhoo, my questions revolve around pets and AA's. I just dinged 24 and was loving my grim spellbinder, but now I recieved a new pet, undying adherent. Question is: I liked my grim spellbinder much better, awesome damage, ect. Are you supposed to use the next best pet or is it ok to keep using grim spellbinder?. Also, there are achievement sections for "theurgist" and "preceptor, animist, ect" how can i tell which pet they are talking about there? I would like to buff up my grim spellbinder and just use him if i knew which tree to put points into for it. Thanks for any replies.

You get three pets as a necro a tank pet (undying adherent) a scout pet (shadowy Stalker) and a mage pet (Grim spellbinder) As you level you will get upgrades to your pets. I solo mostly and find my tank pet to be the most useful as it can take a beating and I can stay back safely and cast my dmg spells. The mage pet does cause more damage but isnt great at taking hits, if you really like the mage pet I suggest you upgrade your chain spells and your INT line. There is a ton of way more experienced necro players that can help you with AA. For me I really like my tank pet becuase I dont have to worry about chaining and I can cast all the AOE spells I like. hope that helps..

One more thing they say tank pet for solo , scout for group with high dps but not enough melee and mage for groups/raids that you would need high dps on..
At 80 you will probably only need your mage pet...also .make sure you always have the best spell upgrades for your pet spells..

As for the mage at 80...i've found the Scout pet to be the better dps of the two until you get mythical, then myth pet hands down everytime.

Mobs will start to get tougher, so i'd say use your tank pet for soloing since we are a cloth wearing squishy class, Mobs will hurt lol. Using the tank pet for soloing... Go down the Sta line, you'll want to max out perceptor's command and the hp aa. And also 5 points in the necro tab's tank pet aa won't hurt too bad. This is about as much as i can remember about the aa set up without looking at a necro aa tree atm.

And with the person above, there are plenty of necros more knowledgeable than me that can help you as well.

Yes Pellaeon has a good point I forgot about the mythical pet, he is bad ass.. The first AA line I went down was the Lifeburn line because in a good group with healers that spell can do up to 25k dmg every cast, but 5 min recast timer.. I heard that you can buy AA mirrors at certain levels so i would get one and test out what AA might work best for you.. Dont forget to read the sticky up top lots of good info in there..Heres a really good post on EQ2 forums regarding AA and pets

If you solo, you want to get Tainted Heals.

Also, depends on the fight for scout or mage pet is better dps...If its a linked encounter, like most TSO instance mobs, then mage pet is better. If single mobs, scout comes up a bit, but depending on group makeup, the mage pet could still be better.

Spec down the int line, max the mage pet in eof and pretty much any aa that increases damage, is what you want =) Soloing, tainted heals all the way, but kinda worthless in raids.

And to the nub that said lifeburn can do up to 25 is a dumbass. Lifeburn ticks for way more than that. Its also extremely dependent on your healer to keep you up at the same time the tank is taking damage. Communication is key, like hey tank, do your dmg immunity, im gonna lifeburn in 10, healer get ready to focus heals on me for a minute. Most healers will tell you to fuck off and you'll get 3 of 10 ticks of lifeburn off instead of the full dmg, which btw, is pointless.

But, as a necro, youre gonna solo youre entire career, or at least plan on it. Necros are the most worthless class in game, next to conjys. Roll diff mage

Hey loser we aren't all experts, I just started learning the class and was just trying to help someone out .. if I made a mistake then correct it like a mature intelligent person instead of replying with a stupid remark making yourself look like a tool. Im sorry I dont have the superior eq2 expertise that you may hold.. like serious get a life.. got nothing nice to say dont say anything..

There is no right or wrong way, regarding this to be honnest. Yes if you are solo'ing, Tainted Heals is yummie.

But when i was a younger necro, yes, like you, i used my Tank pet alot, but then it gets annoying with the whole, pulling agro, and what nots...Now i can't remember being that little of a necro, as mines has been my main for 4 years now, but it might be worth doing what alot of higher ended encros do now, yes ok it's with the myth...
Tank with the mage pet. like they said, upgrade your chains and stun (the one with the bone hands out the ground) and try soloing with your mage pet. I coudln't get used to this at first, but in the end that's now how i roll.

But everyone one is different. Find what suits you
