State of Necro, Worth Coming Back To??
Hiya all, quit EQ2 basically back in the mass exodus pre-AoC. Considering returning and gearing up ahead of the next expansion.
Left with a topped out Necro with fabled epic and a Troub with mythical epic. Like the Necro much more but wonder if it is really worth returning these days to game, even casually.
What is our status these days? Second class? Or worse?

Re: State of Necro, Worth Coming Back To??
Because of the nature of TSO, worse. If your necro is your main reason to play, changes are supposedly coming so wait out the new 3-month cycles and see if anything changes. Only reason to come back now is to claim your free master a month.

Re: State of Necro, Worth Coming Back To??
The state of the necro is really not as bad as people make it out to be. This is not to say that our class, or the summoner class in general, needs tweaking.
SoE has come out and said that summoners are in need of a boost but in the "utility" department and will stay as a second class dpser. Like brigands are to assassins.
The main problem I see with summoners is that we require everything and give very little. For example: In order for a good summoner to put up respectable numbers they need to have a good group (because we are buff dependent) and solid gear and yet we offer almost nothing to the group or raid.
In short, I think it is unrealistic to assume that SoE will make summoners THE dps class; although as most of you know I wouldnt mind it heh. I think SoE needs to give us something that is extremely valuable to any raid which would intice every guild to at least have one and give a reason for people to role summoners.

Re: State of Necro, Worth Coming Back To??
I guess I dont care as much as I used about "top tier" this or that.
My main ? is a necro still able to get groups, maybe consideration for a raiding guild if good etc.
Is there a reason to resub at this time? What is this free master a month? I just sign up and it pops in the mailbox each month like a rent check??
Tell me more.

If you didn't like it before you left, no reason to resub. If you were content, 50/50. Free master is the new research assistant. If you have a spell at Expert( formerly called adept 3's) it'll upgrade it to master. Upgrade time takes up to a month depending on the level of the spell. Can only be used by one character on the account at a time per server so if your troub and necro are on the same account and server you'll have to pick who gets what first.

thanks for the honest reply. Will focus more on getting outside and biking, increased exercise etc. instead of diving back into MMOland.

Re: State of Necro, Worth Coming Back To??
finding a group is a pia. a well played necro will get a spot in a raid but finding a guild to give you a chance would prob be hard atm unless its a guild that got hit hard by the summer drop off in play.

Re: State of Necro, Worth Coming Back To??
Actually there are a handful of decent summoners on my server (and harla dar is pvp mind you) who have their solid places in raiding guilds. Actually, every decent guild on our server has a summoner, b/c sometimes it's easier to take a decent summoner then wait and search for a good assasin/wizzie, and sometimes there are....tricks...that require a summoner.

Re: State of Necro, Worth Coming Back To??
Just about every good raiding guild has one summoner (mine has me and a conjuror that plays his illy most of the time), but you definitely have to be good to make the cut. It's not that hard to get one if you are a good player and can prove it. At least, that's been my experience.
As for what tier dps we are, that really depends on the player. In a heroic instance, I agree - we're not the top but can certainly hold our own. In a raid? A good necro will consistently be breaking 8k and can spike it up to 13k+ (for one fight, not zonewide). That won't touch a good assassin, but it can beat an average wizard, swashy, or brigand. I agree though, with the exception of a few fights, there isn't a whole lot that we can do that someone else can't.
