Re: Whats happening to summoners
@yummy... some of your good faith list was mentioned at FF by the devs not the players so yes some things are coming first.
pet buff range was brought up by an elderly gentleman from LDL and the dev said absolutely since bards buff 50M there is no reason we couldn't as well..
also I expect the buff consolidation to happen on the pet spells also.. there is no reason to have to cast 3 different spells on the pet, just like with our own group buffs.

Re: Whats happening to summoners
I think the whole point of this thread was that necro's were always able to DPS, just very few are able to tap into our full potential. Its not like a sorcerer where you push a couple buttons and you are topping the parse.
The issue really comes down to our class offering something to the raid other than our dps. For example: we are stuck in between sorcerers and chanters. We are not supposed to DPS as much as sorceres yet we are not supposed to be buff bots like chanters so the real question is how do you find a nice balance and yet make it so summoners are needed on a raid?
I think the answer is finding something unique that summoners can do that no other class has the option of doing. Which would involve bringing out a new mechanic into the game. Taking away other players abilities and giving it to summoners is the lazy way out and not a smart move. In fact, it will just piss people off.
A guildie and I were talking yesterday how we think summoners could benifit a raid, aside from our dps, which would inturn be important enough were every guild would want a summoner. Here is a couple of our ideas:
1) Give summoners an outright buff strip.
2) Turn summoner swarm pets into debuff/dps/heal pets for the group/raid and/or encounter. ( In other words, make them usefull.)
3) Give summoners a raidwide buff that is worth having.
4) Allow us to buff someone in the group. A TC or UT equivilant.
Keep in mind that SoE outright said that our dps is fine. So I would not see many changes in that department besides fine tuning our abilities and combat mechanics. So these changes I listed are looking into the utility aspect of summoners which we need.

I don't see it as an issue of needed as much as wanted. If the utility we had actually worked, they wouldn't need gimmicky "forced" ways to get us spots.

Utility as in hearts and rez? Srsly? You seriously think that would get us raid spots? The only way a necro gets raid spots, today, is by his/her dps.

Today because nothing else works. Ooze Crawler, Hearts, Siphoning spells, rez, heals, Vampirism, Vampire bats, Siphoning of Souls and Affliction and even Horde potentially if it works kinda like the t2 robe when it was borked. We have a lot of potential utility already in existence that just doesn't work.

There is a difference between utility and fluff. 90% of that which you mentioned is fluff fixed or not.

Given what I mentioned is debuffs, power and health management and if fixed could add what you spoke of minus maybe buffs ( depending on how they fix siphoning)which has been a complaint since LU-13, I'm not sure what you mean by utility. As a non-raider, I'm thinking we have a disconnect somewhere.
Btw, swarm pets proc Cacophony of Blades? Could have sworn that was taken away years ago when pets went AE vulnerable. Or did I misread this post?

Re: Whats happening to summoners
Deathly Netherbolt still procs and is the only real reason I even have swarm pets still on my hot bar.
