As I said, get 12 minions out (and keep them out) against an encounter of 3 or more mobs and it will easily push past 2k dps. All you are doing is giving yourself 4 or 5 more mage pets to group dot the encounter and some single target dps from the other 8 or 9 pets.

If the pets were only around for 30 secs, or you only got 6 then of course the numbers will be lower.
