Been a while, would like some advice

Ok I need some advice to help my dps. So here's a few questions. Please be gentle, its been over a year and a half since I played a necro with any regularity, my gear is sorely out of date, tho I am trying to update it. I have my mystical orb earring, got some dracomancer gloves from Labs in a a pick up raid, and working on some other stuff like BCG. So here's my questions....

Any suggestions for gear that can be attained either solo, in a group/instance or duo with a conjy?

What do you find is the best setup for spells? What order do you cast them? Does it matter what kind of mob you're fighting?

Pets... is the mage the best most of the time, or does the scout have a place?

Thanks! I would really like to get my dps at least decent, right now I have difficulty getting more than 700dps (lvl 68 right now, mostly broker bought gear, and at least 2 peices of VERY old stuff lol). Please keep the ribbing to a minimum ;) I know I'm a noob.

I guess you could go for our EoF legendary set on the left side, unless you have a small group of friends capable of giving you a hand on some stuff, if so here isn't a bad list.

Your casting order depends almost entirely on the mob your fighting, and the duration you'll be engaged. You'll straighten this out on your own.

The only reason you should summon any other pet is, if you're doing nothing but single target mobs, and you're Scout pet would be crack buffed, which...never happens so, yeah!

cast death rot every time it s up and open with abate on single target or with awaken grave (on a diff target than the MT is on) followed by torrential on group mobs, and keep spaming death rot.

abuse your local troub for jester before lifeburn and undead tide.

get grim heretic m1 with m1 offensive stand (and maybe the m1 debuff resist for pet).

like malingx listed get every possible procing item you can get.
(btw isnt the runed relic circlet from the black water mask quest? you might have mistook since the quest shares the same name as the OP used to have)

You rank Death Rot too high my friend.

After you go down the Rotting AA line, Torrential Pestilence does more DPS, even on single target.

Right now (just scratching into EOF AA's) death rot is my second highest dps behind abate. I'm sure it would change if I was doing more epics and less solo/group mobs, but I can see why someone would take that info from solo/heroic mobs and carry it over to epics. The cast time on torrential plague is generally too long in a group to consider using it on a single target, at least for me. I'd rather dump a death rot and try to get in an abate if i can.

But thanks for the advice, keep it coming! I've already got or am already working on a good portion of that list of gear, so I'm glad I'm on the right track.

BTW, I'm always LFG on Unrest

i am never allowed to play my necro in raids (being MT suck for playing alts to chill out).
my necro has 100 aa but never got to raid since ....err early to mid KoS and at that time deathrot was the spell to put every time between any spells.

i ll take your word for it Malingx you have a lot more raid experience on necro than me.

You're right, it was.

Times change. With the new EoF AA's that reduce the casting speeds on Torrential Pestilence you should be going to that before Death Rot.

how do you figure torrential pestilence is more dps on single targets than rot?

even at max dmg per tick without crits rot is over twice the dps on single targets.

Since every 4.9 seconds you can cast rot, which for me does about 1,001 dmg

Torrent is 10.1 seconds and does about 951 and change, per target which is why I would open up with that on groups, single targets death rot is still more worth your time to start with than torrent is.

You're taking the recast into account, can't do that when trying to calculate straight up DPS, there are other spells you could be casting.

Death Rot takes 2.5 seconds to cast, and averages around 940 damage.
Torrential Pestilence takes 2 seconds to cast, and averages around 1272 damage.

even if I don't take the recast into account the dmg from the torrential is slower than the dmg from the rot, and just taking the max dmg from the spell description death rot does more over its duration than torrential. Crits aside death rot is still a better single target spell than torrential
