Hello guys, this is my first post,
I am new to EQ and I joined only to play Necromancer class mainly (of course I will be trying other classes later) but Necromancer will be my main always since I love this style from other games and MMO's.
I know this post might suit the newbie section, but I'm asking about necromancer class in particular.
It's been about 10 days for me and my necromancer is lvl 43 now. But I haven't used any AA points yet, and I've been googling and browsing forums, and found that this is the best forum to get the knowledge I need.
My friends in-game have been telling me that my Mage pet should be my primary. And I'm convinced, since the DPS output is amazing. But when I solo quests I can not work it out with the mage pet because I die quickly this way even with spamming lifetap (remember I'm just lvl 43).
So is there an AA build for me to follow so I can help myself solo (with warrior pet) as well as do decent dps with mage pet in dungeons?
Or is it true I should learn to solo with a mage pet? Can anyone give me clues for a decent AA build please?
I know my questions might seem noobish atm, but give me time I'll master this class
Thanks..
part of your problem is gear and spell quality, when you level up a new char without any powerleveling or gear you will be at a disadvantage with the rest. You are more than likely going to need to have 2 specs, 1 with the tank pet and 1 with the mage, until you can survive tanking the mob while your mage pet dps' you won't be able to solo with the mage pet.
Tainted heals, it's all about the tainted heals!
If you're looking to solo heroic stuff, and your gear isnt MC or something close, you'll want to spec to your tank pet. Be careful though, at lower levels the tank pet is absolutely terrible at holding aggro. Hell, if it's taking enough damage you can rip aggro off of it just by healing.
Soloing with mage pet will become easier at level 50, when you get lich form. Lich form has it all; heals, power flow, damage proc. It's an aggro whore at lower levels D;
I shall reply to this post after a couple of days when I get to lvl 50.. meanwhile I'll stay with the tank pet and find my way through quests to get there...
Thank you guys for the useful replies.. I'll reserve my AA build until I'm lvl 50 then..
Yea, with mage pet, you might be over dpsing the pet and grabbing aggro. Need to watch the hate meter, alt+t or shift+t or whatever it is to bring that up.
Sometimes you just gotta slow burn if this happens if using tank pet
.
Depending on the mob, you can actually "pickle" a mob like in baseball. Mob turns to go after mage pet, then you take aggro it turns to you, rinse repeat.
I have a video I made that shows tainted heals in work.
I can tank two of those guards at same time just haven't edited and uploaded that video yet but here is only one guard. Im slow burning in that video because if I didnt I would rip aggro right off the tank pet.

for 1... if you use the mage pet, you yourself will be tanking, not the mage pet...
for 2... if you use the tank pet, use soulburn + stoneskins, or dumbfire pets + bewilderment to reduce aggro...
for 3... those "epic" guards are weaker than actual heroics, i can tank them and straight burn them with mage pet out.
Was showing tainted heals.
Wow dude you suck at soloing.
When you have swarm pets up, hit bewilderment for christs sake and it will drop your aggro to 0 then you can dps some. And you can get the crap t5 chest that is gold for soloing necros that will also drop your aggro to 0 several times per minute. Then you can actually DPS and not just watch your tank pet do 5k dps and kill shit forever.

I don't care what you were showing but it was painful to watch how you sit at 60-70% aggro with swarm pets hitting the mob and bewilderment up. It felt like someone was stabbing me in the right eye while someone else is trying to put salt where the knife just went in.
