Default Does the 'ATTACK' number mean anything?

Does the attack number under a player profile (hit P and look) mean anything, or is it just slashing / crushing / piercing?

it's how much DPS you could be dealing if you really applied yourself.

I think it was before LU13 that the attack # gave you a specific % chance to hit if you moused over it. It also used to (If I remember correctly) give you a spell out of what skills were at what levels like Pierce: 200 / Slash: 350 / Crush: 85 etc.

What does it do now? I'll go with Pinski and say it looks a lot cooler than not having an attack number.

How do we increase out attack number? I don't recall seeing any spells or gear that has +attack. But, I have seen people in game bragging about their uber attack attack rating.

And, if attack is really useless, how can we tell how often we should be hitting with auto-attack, spells, or combat arts? (I figure the auto-attacks are probably covered under slash/pierce/crush)

Attack is STR, skill mod, and DR.

last time i played around with it, it was giving me an accurate picture of which of my weapons produced the best dps, but that may have been coincidental.

i was equipping different combinations of weapons, and the attack number changes were matching up with what had worked best from test parsing.
if anyone wants to or has done more testing, feel free to refute my remarks. just something that - if true - may be useful for less experienced players.

It's a good way to see if buffs drop as well, or some ass steals ur buff. As for a tank, you can easily see if primitive instincts drops etc. It can not be used in calculations as far as i know, except have higher is cooler.
