Default pref. tank

No real eq2 experience here and I'm down to either shadowknight or berserker for my Sarnak. Are they both preferred for tanking, does it matter which one I pick?

If you want to join a guild and raid in the end game of EQ2, you'll be happier with a Berzerker.

I have a 70 SK on Kithicor that I started the first day EQ2 went live. I also have a SK on Nagafen, where I recently restarted.

I love my SK, and think it is the funnest and in some limited ways among the most powerful tank class of all, especially for soloing and grouping.

But, regardless of recent improvements, SK is just not a class that's needed much at raids, and is one that is easily replaceable with other tank classes.

I like to two box, so I make a SK as my personal group tank, and a defiler as my healer. Then, I raid on the defiler, and use the SK for two boxing and farming. To me, that combo is fun as hell.

So my suggestion is, before you go dumping all that time into a character, decide if you are going to want to participate in the high end game. If so, I strongly encourage you to start a Zerk or Guard rather than a SK.

thanks. Looks like I'm just going to play for a month or so and one friend is making a Sarnak Defiler; maybe I'll try the Shadowknight since we won't be raiders.

I never was a raider so can't comment on that.

So for soloing, the SK is the prefered class for sure. I played a zerker and thought that i could solo pretty well, but i also had pimp gear. Still i think the SK would be better for this.

As for grouping, You might have issues w/ agro with a SK. This is a pretty ongoing debate and some will say they don't have issues like a lot of others. But they probably have a3's or M1's as well. And i think that most will say zerkers hold agro better in general.

Just from playing a zerker, agro was never an issue, but i did have adept3's and M1's, just keep that in mind. DPS was awesome as burst and AOE dmg. But i hear SK's can out DPS zerkers. But, as long as i was tanking and an SK was assist tank, he (nore most in the group)didn't even come close to my DPS. Think thats cause we go berserk when hit and have reactive dmg when hit too.

If your friend is a defiler, SK will pair well w/ that but if you think you will be worried about agro and wont be investing pimp gear, roll a zerker.
