Default How bad are race/class restrictions?

I've always liked doing weird race/class combinations in other games, and I was wondering if you can do something like a Ratonga fury. I know it doesn't make much sense, but the idea is cool to me.

Are there class/race restrictions, as in, is it not possible for some races to be certain classes?

How much do racials effect this class/race combo? I don't know much about them, but I don't want it to be hindered.

Would it be ok for PVP, or would it put me back more?

Mage -> Erudite makes a massive difference
Priest is pretty whatever
Ratongas make awesome scouts
Ogres are the best tanks

Is it? You mean all the whining that went on here for a month or so was BS? I never heard of them nerfing the racial traditions.

Some are better than others, but nothing is game breaking.

It's true. All the content is completable without any of the traditions. Having them, and having good ones is just useful, and makes life easier. It isn't a game breaker. Most of the bitching was about the fact they have no semblance of balance whatsoever.

Tbh the quirky and fluff traditions are more influential on gameplay than any of the 'zomg-overpowered' combat abilities that people were freaking out about.

As a dark elf, 15% run speed while stealthed *or* invis, and feather fall, and 25% bonus to poison procs is all more important to me than the fury of innoruuk buff.

So just pick what sounds fun to you. Nobody else will care and its better than choosing a race solely for stats only to find out at lvl 60+ that you hate the way your char looks and feels and want to reroll.
