How to make plat?

From a total newb starting at char 1, lvl 1. What is the fastest way to make some money to buy good gear.

When i played a long time ago, i would harvest a lot to sell on the broker. collection quest items (bones, leaves and shit,) and mostly basic ingridients for TS. Selling 20 of whatever can add up and i would make from 5-30 gold in a day usually (t5 harvesting) + chest drops were a bonus but not much income.

Is there a better way. Should i level my toon early on in TS to 80 before adventuring? Anyone have some tips out there for a newb that doesn't want to support child labor in china and buy plat online? Maybe specific quests, locations, mobs to kill, whatever...

Whats your strategy and how well does it work?

I would suggest picking up transmuting as soon as you can, not sure where or when you can start it - might see if there is a transmuting faq somewhere, but if you luck out and make a powder out of the treasured item you broke that will be about 8-10g at least on my server.
Otherwise just keep all the treasured crap you get to sell on the broker, some leveling tranny will usually pay a gold or 2 per item, and they seem to be pretty common in the lower levels.

harvesting is always a quick buck. whenever i started a char on a new server.. i would harvest shineys

in high level zones. sell those.. and have a plat or so to start out with after a little bit of harvesting clickysyayayay

Ack fer the love of god don't get him into the f'ing money pit that is transmuting: truth, you can't make money from 'muting, esp. lower levels. You'd make more selling quest rewards...
On that note: As far as making money, harvesting shinies isn't a bad way to go; it's going to vary by server, but check what tier shinies are going for a decent rate, and just go grab 'em. As a level 70 squeezing out the last few AA's when 100 was the cap, I'd spend upwards of 50g on random t2/3 bones just to get what I could. You'll get lucky sometimes.
Lower-tier tradeskill harvests have an increased chance of springing rares lately, so t2-3 is good to harvest pretty much anything (and even non-rares can sell well occasionally).

HArvest and horde as many of the T1 harvestables you can fill your bags with on the newb island. Especially the roots. On every server Ive rolled on, roots gained me a ridiculous amount of gold to get started with.
After you get to your starting town, check the broker and search harvestables and see which earn the biggest $$ and go get a bunch.
Tradeskilling does not really pay off until you get past like T3.

Shinys (just like you said you used to do)

I do pretty well collecting these - some don't net you anything at all - but - I get enough "rare" ones that people want to keep myself with enough cash for the most part.

For whatever reason - even the low level "rares" - people seem to buy some of them for 1pp or more. I don't get it myself, but if I get 3 black kobold paws, for instance - the first 2 go to my collections - and from 3 and on, I'll keep selling them for 1pp for as long as people keep buying them for that price.

I also harvest everything in sight - it amounts to quite a bit of "a little bit at a time" income - that builds over time if you don't just blow your cash on everything in sight.

Drops:
Sell every piece of treasured gear / Adept I on the broker. Depends on your server but they tend to go for around 1-4 gold per. I made 3 plat in as many days just farming named over and over in the newbie zones on my necro alt.

You can also sell quest rewards. Most of the new starting areas, have all No-Trade rewards so stick with CL and Antonica.

Shinies. Certain ones are worth Cash, because of percieved rarity, I think Scuffed Evocation shard is a good example. At any rate theres usually one or two that can net you a few gold / up to a plat.

Lore and Legend Drops. Check the broker for these. Generally for some reason Bixie parts, Siren parts, Centaur parts cost an arm and a leg. I think I sold a Centaur eye for 1.5 plat the other day.
