How does this game stack up to EQ1 in terms of community?

I mean, I played EQ1 from shortly after Velious to before GoD and when all was said and done, it was the people and the competitive atmosphere between rival guilds that kept me playing.

I am wondering, that if at the top end there exists a similar feeling of competition and community?

I am playing on Nektulos, btw.

My impression of EQ2 is good, especially after coming from WoW and having to readjust myself to some of the same old chat commands from EQ1. It is unfortunate though, from having lurked on these forums that there still is a disgruntled attitude towards SoE, clearly stemming from their attempts to WoW'ify the game.

EQ2 is soloable from lvl 1-80. As a result, people get to the 60's and start to wonder "Maybe I should start grouping" and then realize (or don't) that they A) don't know how to play their character in a group and B) don't know how to group.

Find a group at 15-20 and stick to them like glue.

My comments above apply x 4 to raids.

I've soloed my new characters on Nagafen to 79, and have only grouped briefly a few times. If I didn't have prior raiding experience on my Defiler, I'm pretty sure I'd have no clue how to group or raid on him.
