Default Rez - Does it affect gear damage

When it comes to gear damage, is there any advantage to taking a rez over just reviving?

In my experience, no. However I have a friend in guild who "heard from <insert uber player names here>" that you should take a rez whenever possible in order to save your gear.

Gear damage is already done when you eat dirt, before you rez or revive - and I have indeed seen times where I took no gear damage (bug?) but it had nothing to do with my choice to rez or revive.

Agree, disagree? Please discuss.

If you die and get the revive window, your armor is damaged 10%, it does not matter weather you revive or get a healer to rez you, must be a bug if you are not taking damage

Does falling death result in gear damage?

Yes, it does.

The only times you can die and not take gear damage is in duels, or if you die right after getting rezzed (Like taking a rez 1/100th of a second before the nasty Kill-the-raid AE goes off usually wont damage your gear a second time)

Wrong. You will ALWAYS take armor damage if you die in a PvE encounter, period.

I can assure you that rezzing right as an AE hits does indeed hurt your armor. Fucking asshole dirges/clicking accept without thinking.

Ya, think he meant on a non pvp server. If I duel someone on my server and ill lose (don't happen tho - im über ) then my gear isnt damage.

there are few situations in a duel with pet class where you can take real death in a duel. to be correct it is after duel when your pet bugs and continue fighting your enemy. Pretty rare though.

The only reason a rez is more valuable than just reviving is when you have worked your way into a dungeon or area and don't want to run or work all the way back to where you are.

Rezz also works that if you are stuck under a mob, the person rezzing in you will 'pull' you back to where they are standing ...if they can get in range to do it.

Otherwise, if you die, you are damaged regardless of how you get back up again. I don't remember when rezz in this game affected gear damage...if it did, it was several years ago, and was quickly changed, so your friend is thinking of another game.

If some uber guild member told him that...he was messing with him.
