My first post and I apologize it will be a rather pathetic one...

I'd really like to play some kind of DD/tank class and use a 2H weapon. What would that be in this game... berserker? I know in most games using a 2H weapon is pretty much gimped, not as good for damage as duel weilding, not as good for tanking without shield. Is that the case with EQ2? If it is, can you at least maintain a viable and functional 'build' with a 2H? I don't care to have the best of the best build, but I also don't want to be gimped so bad that no one will group/raid/ or want me in a guild.

I burned out on another MMO as I always had to spec a certain way - had to use certain equipment - had to spend hours comparing... all to make sure I had .000001% more damage per hour by doing something a certain way... you get where I'm going with this... heh

This time around with a game I want to have fun, want to build my char around gear and equip I like and hoping thats possible.

Thanks in advance, should anyone respond. I will invest some time into researching online my questions but hope someone might be nice enough to spoon feed me some info.

You can build a zerker around a two handed weapon and get away with it. Will you tank "as well" as a tank specced toon, no. Will you produce the DPS that other builds will, no. But to be honest, unless your tanking raids it's not a big deal.

Another thing, until you get to 70+ the mobs don't really hit that hard and with a half decent healer in your group you shouldn't have any problem staying upright.

As for DPS, someone who plays a zerker can probably answer this questions better, but I would think that using the "buckler" (I know this is not the line name) spec would yield better dps and duel wielding probably would as well but I don't think you would gimp yourself all that much. I know other builds probably make it a bit easier to keep agro due to the fact that your doing more damage but for just tanking instances and stuff like that I'm sure you would do just fine. Hell, play how you want. Your the one paying the fee.

I play a healer and have grouped with a guy that just loves to use two handers on his zerker, he doesn't give a shit what people say and just does his thing. I don't have any real problems keeping him up.

You're better off playing a SK if you want to go 2H DPS/Tank.

And the above is an even better idea. I have a 41 SK that only really uses a two hander and does pretty well tanking and produces respectable DPS.

Thanks for the replies... sorry about the name Illuminator, I've used some kind of variation of "lumi" for many years. I guess with such a big population of gamers, always going to be some similarities. I dunno - tonight when my game is done patching maybe I can create a new name altogether and change my user name here to reflect that.

So if I really want to use a 2H sword, SK is my best bet?

If you really want to wield a 2-H sword, you could consider a melee specced warden also.

If you don't mind a 2-H club/hammer etc. instead, a melee specced mystic or inquisitor would work too.

F that S tbh. You want to tank and tote a 2hander so the obvious choice is crusader in EQ2. Roll an SK for soloing then betray to Pally when you hit the end tier.

Don't roll a shadowknight if you're wanting to get into a raid guild later on. Sk's have very little use on raids and it's harder to get a raid spot than with other classes.
