How do you take an item from in-game and get the code for it?

i.e. \aITEM 1386293886 53803786:Hood of Dark Dealings\/a

look in your game logs and they will be there instead of just the name of the item

im supposing the logs are some ungodly .txt file in a folder in the /program files/sony/eq2 dir?

Can search the item name there and get the link.

Why would you need to take from game and not links?

Or are you updating it with the new items? and if thats that case, ignore my simple mind. =)
