Returning Player, with Noobish questions
I have browsed a bit on these forums, but some of the articles were a bit old so figured I would ask again, sorry if this causes issues.
I played EQ2 when it first came out, then I moved to other MMO's with RL friends. Now I am returning, my RL friends got tired of MMO's, and I got burned out by being expected to be playing other MMO's like a 2nd 8 hour job.
I am currently looking at playing Necromancer or Conjuror, enjoy being able to solo or group (and I never advance far enough when I played before to try either of these classes - had played as Monk before and always played with my friends).
What I am wondering is what kinds of things I should be aware of when starting a new character - Race, AA points, ideas about trade skills (what would be best for a newbie starting out...again), and other things that make you smack your head and go 'Why didn't I think of that before'
I did check under guides and found nothing for these 2 classes, and like I said, some of the info in this forum is a bit old and wanted to check for any 'updated' info
I am also wondering what server would be best for someone in CST, or are the populations fairly stable through out the day ? would hate to be playing when there are few people on at the time.
Thanks for any and all Info, and feel free to toss in anything else that would be helpfull

Familiarize yourself with the soloing timelines on Main Page - EQ2i because you will need them OFTEN.

Re: Returning Player, with Noobish questions
Probably wanna look through the Necro/Conj class forums, although they're slightly aimed towards raiders they try to be helpful to newbs as well.
Race only matters a tiny bit more than it did back then, but it really is minor. Erudites and Dark Elves are the best, but you could play as any race not notice a true difference overall. It's better to just go for something you're comfortable looking at for a while.
AA are easily changeable these days and extremely easy to get while leveling. The class forums probably have detailed info on this (or should).
Tradeskills, I'd actually not worry at all except for Tinkering, which has the most direct-to-adventuring help (fd items, health/power items, random funny gadgets). Most of the best items are higher level though, and tinkering is capped by your adventure or crafting level, so it's not something I'd worry about at the start. To get tinkering, you only need to have started as a level 2 artisan (speaking to whoever starts your tradeskill) and then talking to the master tinkerer on the Butcherblock docks. Just make sure to not bother with Transmuting (unless you want to just take it to transmute your newbie gear, and then sell your items on the broker). Like I noted, basic tradeskill doesn't matter, in fact it's actually a drain on your finances to invest especially in the early levels, unless you harvest yourself. For normal tradeskill, Sage is probably the fastest to level, and depending on your server economy Provisioner is probably the cheapest. The best money making would be to harvest and sell the raws on the broker for people who are trying to level their own tinkering/tradeskilling, as you can get quite a lot nowadays from lazy/tired people.
And as for server/population, the biggest problem is that on all servers most of the population is 70-80, so almost no matter what server or timezone, it'll be a crapshoot to whether there's people around your level around to group with. I think the most populated PvE server is Antonia Bayle, but I'm not sure.

Re: Returning Player, with Noobish questions
Basically the best gear for newbs comes out of Gorowyn/Timorous Deep, but that means you have to start off as an evil character. This loot is pretty powerful and stat-wise is as good as the old tier 5 gear.
There's not much other gear that's irreplaceable - I think gear is easy to find/get and crafted (mastercrafted) gear is pretty good for newbies - doing the a few old HQ's (manastone, J-boots, fishbone earring) is a good idea as these items are useable no matter what your level is, but it's not necessary to do it early and is easily done at higher levels. After you hit 60-65, you should try to get some friends to help you on the bag of the tinkerer quest and probably the bone-clasped girdle quest. *Edit: I forgot that as a summoner, I think you get a spell to cast water breathing stones, so you can scratch doing the fishbone earring).
Just stick with the newbie house til you think you've got enough cash, some people just stay in the newbie house for their entire careers, you're easy to find to sell things and you'll have plenty of room. Since you're going for a pet class, your solo strength is based on your pet, and you should spent your cash towards getting adept 3 pets as you go along.

This is entirely untrue. I've taken every toon created since RoK came out through Timorous Deep. For the goodie toons you just have to get there and it isn't difficult at all. For Qeynos toons just get thyself to the Harbor and take the carpet to Sinking Sands. Then from there, take the carpet to Butcherblock. Run down the beach and go up the path on the right. You'll find a griffon that'll take you to Gorowyn.
If you're coming from Neriak, just go to the Wanderlust Fair and take the carpet there. Then from Sinking Sands take the carpet right to Timorous Deep. Same result; takes you to Gorowyn. Then make your way to the newb area on Chrykori Beach to start lvling up.
TD is by far the best area to start your career. In particular, although I can't give names, you'll pick up three items there that are fab for the lvls you get them. A cloak you get from the Shadowlords, a necklace you get from the cat Queen Murmansk (think that's the right spelling) you do the quest and you get this one. Finally, there's a reward you get which is a belt (I think) towards the end of the TD quests. Those three items will keep you from spending hard-earned cash for another 10 lvls at least.
