All other things being equal a race with +3% HP has an advantage as a tank.

But in the end it isn't worth playing a race you don't like. There have been uber half-elf guards (Noah, Morphling).

3% HPs is nothing really. I don't know how it's calculated, but assuming it's calculated before self-buffing but including gear which I doubt it does, it's at best 270 HPs at 80, so if that miniscule amount of extra health is worth it to you, then go for it. Realistically if you think a couple hundred extra HPs is going to make the difference between you winning an encounter or not at 80 then you might want to rethink you strats.

HP and Power Max % is calculated after gear.

Pick a race with good attributes, then use an illusion.

You sure about this? Cause when I add an item that has, for example, 100 more hp listed, it doesn't give me 103. I also chose the other max hp% things, but yet my health only goes up the amount listed on the item. So I think it must be before gear/buffs.
