Default Are tradeskills necessary? (new player)

Are tradeskills vital or can I get by without them?

I'm a new player that just started; also wondering if are there any easy to level tradeskill (not time consuming) for monks.

    Thanks in advance!

They are not necessary at all. A lot of players never craft past a few levels because some find it mind numbingly boring.

The easiest to level in my opinion is Provisioner.

End game, you can do faction quests, and get special runspeed earrings, and craft AA mirrors that let people have 2 specs they can switch between, or you can craft players T1 and T2 shard armor, instead of them buying it from the vendor which is kinda cool cuz you get a little money and they save a couple shards.

But if you dont care about that stuff, it doesnt impact the game in any other way.

if you wanted to be self serving and do something that helps your monk while leveling, you could go tailor for his armor, alchemist for his spells, jeweler for his jewelry, or woodworker for his weaps for example, if you were to use batons.

Its pretty much up to you youre not forced into anything.

How hard is it to level tailoring?

    Thanks again!

Its not hard, none of them are hard really. If that sounds cool to you then do it.

I don't see how this can possibly be the case. Provisioners have the smallest number of recipies which really hurts leveling since so much of the experience comes from first-time Pristine combines. Depending on prices on your server, Provisioners might be cheaper to level, but they are pretty much forced to do writs to level and they don't make items any faster than any other class. But I'd be curious to hear why you think they are faster/easier than other tradeskill classes.

The fastest levelers, in my opinion, are tradeskill classes that make spells because there are so many combines per level. Sages are the absolute easiest because they have both Priest and Mage spells, so that is at least 12 new combines per level, usually 18, and 24 or more at most tier levels (the ones divisible by 10). (This is also only counting App4 combines--I almost never made Ad3 spells except for myself, and even then only a few important spells, until I reached T8.) I paced myself on my Sage, rarely outleveling my adventuring class, and only once did I have to resort to writs in order to gain the next level.

So if all you care about is faster leveling, my suggestions are Sage if you're a Mage or Priest, Alchemist if you're a Fighter, or Jeweler if you're a Scout.

The FBSS Heritage quest requires you to craft low-lvl artisan food items, but other than that, all crafted items for non-crafter quests can be commissioned or bought off the broker (palladium bangle, apple muffins, etc.).

My Jeweler leved up to 80 significantly faster than my Provisioner, but my Carpenter has been the slowest (still 78). The argument that Jewelers/Sages/Alchemists have more recipes and therefore gain experience faster is entirely valid, IMO.

Youre right, i said easiest by the fact that i was lazy and didnt have money back in the day when i tried tradeskilling and provisoner items were the most abundant and cheapest to buy, so i didnt have to waste time going out and harvesting myself. Other TS are "faster", thats why i said i liked alchemist because they have all the fighter spells, and some potions and poisons etc...

Easiest, by far, is any scholar profession. They have the most recipes, thus, the most bonus xps to dish out.

Alchemist: make upgrades to your combat arts
    Jeweler: make your own bling
    Sage: <won't help you>

It's really hard for most new players to stick with crafting because it's hard to keep up with your adventure level..

    Like Tailoring, for example..

you will not be able to create a full set of armor until you are at the mid to end of the tier, so you almost have to keep your tradeskill 10 levels above your adventure level if you want to make your own full set of armor each tier.

Crafting will not make or break your character. If you enjoy it, have at it.. if not, don't sweat it.

I started the game and didn't do any crafting at all on my main. I rolled an alt about a month later and made it a point to keep him +/- 2 levels from his adventuring level. Years later when RoK came out, I ended up crafting as a Sage on my main and he leveled up pretty fast.

    Ease of leveling:
If you want to level fast, it is best to do a scholar, as others have mentioned.

    Profitability:
My provisioner is much more profitable, in the fact that I can sell items at a 200-300% mark up, if I make the right items. They are more profitable because people need food and drink on a constant basis, versus a spell upgrade only 15 times or so per tier. This late after a level cap increase, the market for spell upgrades is much lower than right after an expansion that raises the level cap. Plus, with a provisioner, you can make items on your own time without special requests. As a scholar, you can do that, but your turnaround time on inventory is much lower since most people just seek out a scholar when needed. As a scholar, you end up making items upon request instead of just whenever you fee like it.
