Default Pots (remedies, ointments, formulas, etc) for Templar?

Given that Templars have single and group cure-alls, do they need potions to heal arcane/physical/noxious/elemental effects?

Do they need? Yes. Why? Because of target locks.

And wtf is an ointment or formula in EQ2?

Ointments/etc: I was referring to the stuff the NPC Alchemist sells to remove x levels of effects. I'm going off memory here so some of the names were probably wrong.

Err, what is target lock, and, how does it fit into pots consumption? Is it an ability which prevents me from targeting others? If so, why would I need a pot then? Sorry for noob questions

Edit: Unrelated, but, how do I display a compass on my ui? I'm not sure if I turned it off by accident or not . . . . thanks.
