Default BLACKBURROW STRATS for free and new players

    Hi everyone.

I thought with the downtime people could use something to read and hopefully help them play better and enjoy the game better when it comes back online. Especially new players I think this guide will help them with the dungeon and since it is the one most people go to to level and PL alts it has a benefit for everyone

I must warn you that I usually produce my strat guides with my 90Sk and 90 Wizzy duoing in the zone so I can get you the latest information about the dungeon. This time I will have to go from memory and even though I have ran Blackburrow about 50 times lately trying to finish my Gnoll L&L for my Wizzy I might miss a few things or not remember names of the big bosses.

Blackburrow is for level 10-25 level toons. If you go in higher then 17 a lot of the top level will be grey but you can still get drops like Gnoll body parts to finish the L&L and the gnoll language quest. One of the funniest things in EQ2 is the gnoll language and what the gnolls say when you are fighting them. My favorite is "No fair, it was my turn to hit you." ROFL. I always try to picture the guy who did the voice acting for that and try to imagine what he looked like in my mind.

BlackBurrow is located in Antonica and the fastest way to get there is by griffin you go to the Thundering Steppes griffin tower and run North along the hillside until you see the entrance. You will notice a pond and a tunnel entrance with spiders and skellies (not sure why they are here as they are much higher in level then the surrounding mobs. I think it maybe because people complained the zones were made too solo friendly so they put these in here for people to grind.

Just before you get to BB there is a forest in which the Darkpaw Fanglord roams. get him if you can for AA and he drops a fabled waist item sometimes with good str for fighters. Just be careful as when you attack him two other gnolls run up and help him so be ready with your AOE spells.

Once you come to the entrance and zone in you will notice a gnoll about level 12 in the tunnel leading out into the main part of the dungeon. This guy needs to be killed as soon as he can notice you as he is a guard who can run out and warn all the other Gnolls. If you have ever did the Lightbringer HQ and had to go to Bloodskull valley you will remember the orcs who run off as soon as you run in that you have to kill. I think Bloodskull valley was scripted after this encounter so kill him fast and don't let him warn his buddies.

Go through cave out into the main chamber and you wil notice gnolls everywhere. I have never had much problem with these unless I tried to pull too many-but since I got my SK all PQ gear now I can pull the whole room with my higher Crit Mit stats. Go along the right side until you come to a stream with a bunch of gnolls-kill them and you'll see in a little cave a named called the fisher or something like that. This guy is much stronger fighting in the water so pull him back out and onto the land and he is cake.

Go through the tunnel you see filled with water-not the one the named was in-and you will start swimming as it gets deep. Be careful going underwater unless you have water breathing as there are fish that aggro you at a long distance and they can stun you. I found out the hard way that you don't want to be stunned underwater with no water breathing. Soon you come to a ledge on the right with two gnolls and a named behind them. For some reason these are very easy to kill with no special abilities but I think that is because this ledge is just a place to rest and get everything back to full before you go into the next chamber.

You have to go underwater to get into the next chamber and it has a ton of gnolls right up to the waters edge so you can help but aggro them as soon as you come out of the water. If your strong or with a 90 raider who is powerleveling you you can try to get the whole room to aggro you and brun them down but I wouldn't unless you know you can do it. There are centipedes near the back collapsed portion that are heroic and hit very hard so I recommend pulling the first 2/3rds of the room and after resting pull these. Sometimes a named is up but he is easy to kill.

Now head back to the main chamber and you will notice on the far side some train tracks. BEFORE going in know that this part is heroic mobs and will be much tougher then the main chamber. You will find miners on the tracks and wandering triple ups also. Starting here is where you need a good tank who knows how to bodypull well. If you just start attacking mobs you will aggro the whole tunnel and then you get to start at the beginning again after your dirt nap.

There are three small caves off of these tunnel and each has about 15-20 gnolls with a boss. Body pulling is essential to peel off just a few at a time. The best part about these caves is hardly anyone ever goes in here due to how long it takes to peel groups of 3 mobs away without aggoring the whole cave which means you die. This means no competition and usually you will always get two of the three nameds being up. Take your time-bodypull small groups away from each cave and you should be fine.

Now head back out and go towards a tunnel to your left. Before the tunnel you will see a bridge of wood going up-this leads to more gnolls around a campfire-nothing special here but if your just on a killing spree then take them out.

Head into the tunnel but be carefull-there is a triple up heroic that roams from the bottom to the top. When I first started playing EQ2 in 2005 my first character was a Wizard, back when the level cap was 50, and I was in here for the first time with a PUG (pick up group) and we must have died 15 times trying to get passed this gnoll. I think back then they were a lot stronger and have since been made too easy, especially people that come in here with DOV raid gear.

If you get past this guy down at the bottom of the tunnel are two more gnolls and a bunch more throughout the cave. Bodypulling for here on out is your only tactic if you want to survive. In case you don't know and are a new player by Bodypulling I mean you slowly approach a mob if your the tank and as soon as you notice the mob notice you run back towards your group. That way it doesn't wake up the rest of the mobs and you just have to fight him and at most one or two linked mobs near him.

On the other side is a rope bridge with 2 gnolls guarding each side. Once thru them a tunnel heads off to the left and one keeps going straight. Go straight and you will see it spilts. The left goes to a single chamber with about 30 gnolls and a named or two. Bodypull and be prepared for a huge fight. The bad part about these caves with so many gnolls is that the scouts will have to reposition themselves to each mob as it is impossible for the tank to turn them so their back is to the party. If your playing a scout it just takes a lot more work to get behind every mob for your positional attacks-but it does keep you busy so you wont get bored.

Next head back and take that other tunnel and you will come down to two caves. One has an Oracle named with about 20 gnolls and another has a hero and treasure hoarder named with about 15 gnolls. Take your time, bodypull a few at a time and take breaks if you need to recover. These gnolls don't respawn that fast so you can recover enough, fight, recover and you should be fine. I know with PUGS you usually don'y have optimum group makeups but these caves will wish you had a chanter with you for the power regens. I know in the early stages of EQ2 a lot of people made necromancers when the lich spell came into being so they wouldn't have to worry about power in fights like these that took so long.

By now you have probably gotten a drop in a small chest that had a quest starter. In the treasure room you just cleared is a chest in the back thast completes this quest. Click on it and the quest finishes.

Go back to the bridge and go down the tunnel that is now on your right. Once again-lots of gnolls but now you see a little pond with some elementals floating above them. Do not aggro the elementals unless you are uber geared. I have tried them three times and so far no luck. They just stun too much and hit too hard. Besides-I am in here to kill gnolls so I don't mess with them.

Go through the opening to the left and another small cave with more gnolls. Now you see a tunnel straight ahead and a ledge running up to your right. The ledge leads to a secret entrance to Antonica so it is fun to go up there and see where it goes. Plus outside it is another named the Hero who gives AA.

Go back and go through the other tunnel and you start heading down and encounter spiders. These are all tough ^^^'s so fight them one at a time. Poison cures and potions are essential from here on out. Down at the bottom of the tunnel you will see another pond with a waterfall and a little puddle in the middle of the chamber. Go into the puddle and you will find a secret tunnel if you go underwater. WARNING-at the end of this is a Boss mob around level 20+ that hits super hard. You don't aggro him when you come up and you also see some NPC gnomes who offer quests. Bad thing is to get to the Gnomes this guy will aggro and I still haven't beaten him so i don't know what quests the Gnomes offer. This can be an incentive for you to learn how to beat this guy to find out about the Gnomes.

Now head back out and follow the tunnel that leads off from the waters edge. You will find "broodtender" spiders that are all ^^^'s and a cave with two big mobs with a ton of spiderlings. Bodypull here and DO NOT do anything to aggro the whole cave or you will die. Reason is when you go into the cave you will find another little cave right off this with the BOSS mob of BB a queen spider. This is a very tough fight and unless you have two healers-one to heal and I recommend a healer like a druid with very fast cast times and also one strictly dedicated to healing the poison DOT this boss puts out. I don't know much about shamans and how wards would help this fight be any easier as the poison DOT is your number one concern. I don't play healers as mostly it is women who play them so I let them have those classes to encourage more to play EQ2 so if you know a few good ones you might ask about shamans and DOT's especially poison ones.

Once the poison DOT is put on your tank it affects everyone and you will notice your health being drained away at an alarming rate. Cure this ASAP. The other bad thing is all the spiderlings stun the tank which causes it to lose aggro and then they go for the healers which in turn prevents them from curing the DOT. Kind of a catch 22 in that you need to kill the spiderlings who prevent you from curing the DOT but if you don't cure the DOT you die in about 15 seconds.

If you figure out how to get pass that Boss mob then head back and go into the water at the waterfall. You go underwater and you will see another secret tunnel leading to the brewery. This is an important part of BB as you have to come here to complete a Heritage quest-I'll let you figure out which one-and it also updates a few other quests you find in the world and also some special event quests.

You will find a lot of gnolls around the equipment and also a tunnel leading up to another secret entrance out to Antonica with another named.

This is the extent of the areas in BB and some things I have purposefully left out since a lot of new players read these and I don't want to be a spoiler for their first run through here. I know mine were very exciting and even though we died so many times it was still some of the funnest time I have had in EQ2. Also, those two secret underwater places weren't known by most people so it was very exciting to find them and not now what lurked ahead.

When EQ2 comes back online I will go back into BB and park my toons there and touch up what I think is needed in this strat guide to make it a little more polished and helpful. Hopefully it gets you excited about the game coming back gives you something to look forward too.

One thing I should caution you about is you will occasionally find Raiders in here with a toon or two following them as they powerlevel them up. BB, FG, and POA are favorite places for Raiders. Besides having a lot of mobs and fast respawns which the raiders like I think a lot of it is nostalgia since these people have been playng since 2004.

The best thing to do if you find a raider (you will know if they are as their names will be pink and anonymous so as to keep other raid guilds from spamming them with invites) is just to communicate and ask which way they are going and try to do other parts of the dungeon because raiders have the best gear and they can usually take whole caves at once and wiped them out very fast.

The good part about this is they usually always leave the chests behind which are free for the picking-you only have to wait for the timer to run down to loot the chest then all of the items are yours including masters and fabled items. On my SK I found three CA's like this that I had never mastered before. It doesn't help later versions of the spells but it is nice if you are a completionist and like everything to be maxed.

If you are in a small group a lot of times the raider will let you join them as most I have encountered are very friendly and then you will notice you can gain a lot of AA points in a short amount of time. If you get lucky to group with one I would recommend setting your AA slider to 100% to get all the AA you can. Of course always be courteous and tip them for their time if they do group with you. I usually give them around 25G if I can afford it if I am on a lower level alt that is not mentored down.

When I finish FG I'll do it in sections-that should make it easier for all to enjoy.

Please note that if you do happen to come across a "raider", do not directly look him or her in the eyes. They see this as a form of challenge and they have been known to hack your computer when approached wrong.

The correct way to approach an entity like this is to turn around backwards, and use shift+R to walk slowly (backwards) towards them. Never directly face a raider. When you are close enough to them, open a trade window and give him something from your bags. An adept spell scroll or anything really will suffice. The item is unimportant but the offering is what counts. IF they choose to accept your patronage, then say something like "thank you for being a raider". Remember, NEVER make eye contact.

If the raider does not accept your symbol of peace then the best recourse is to evac/call home, then turn off your computer and go lay down in your bed. Wait 3 days then try Blackburrow again.

Technically, no zone currently exists, so correct there.

However, since one of my low toons was in there about 20 minutes before the whole world came crashing down, I can confidently say that the zone DOES exist.

    Good day to you.
