    Default Coming from EQ1...

I played EQ1 a long time ago in its glory days (Kunark, Velious, Planes of Power). I had a necro and a bard. I enjoyed them for their proficiency at soloing as well as what they offered in groups (more so the bard). What I would like to know is how the EQ2 necro and bard differ from their EQ1 counterparts.

In EQ1, necros were kings of soloing (single mobs at least). They snared, feared, sent pet, and added DoTs. This "fear kiting" allowed them to solo things that most other classes couldn't. Although in EQ1, most classes couldn't solo at all. In groups, necros offered mostly just DPS and one useful buff. End game, their group role was far less glorious and was reduced to merely feeding mana to more important classes.

Bards shined in groups, offering many useful buffs, debuffs, and crowd control via charming and mezzing. They struggled with the solo game in the early levels but once they gained a few useful songs, they soloed as well or better than necros via "swarm kiting" (though the learning curve was much higher).

I've read a bit of these forums and the class forums but haven't come across mention of fear kiting or swarm kiting. On the contrary, it seems a necro's pet or the necro himself has to tank while the other DPSes. I've also glanced at the spells and songs, and it seems like these methods could still be used. Are they not? Is mob health so low that those tactics are useless? I read that nearly any class can solo, like WoW, so I guess the mobs are much friendlier this time around.

    To sum up my curiosities:

    1. How do necros differ from EQ1 in their play style?
    2. Same question, but for bards. And are bards still the fastest travelers?
    3. And for good measure, I'm also curious if classes still get cool but relatively useless abilities, like an enchanter shapeshifting into a tree in EQ1, or a high level Druid being able to stop or start zone-wide rain.

    1. Completely different animals, try hard to not even compare them at all.
    2. No.
    3. Sorta. Summoners get some of that.

Every class can solo the vast majority of content in EQ2.

It was for anybody here who HADN'T played EQ1, so they could still answer my questions if they wanted.

Don't make the same mistake I did with my wizard. I got held up lvling my wiz in EQ2 a lot because there is a difference (same role, different style). As a result I do still miss my instant nukes and snare and gift of mana procs. However, mana has yet to be a real issue, we do have a couple nukes that can be cast on the move, and for soloing I found most mobs are dead before they get to look at me anyway. As stated above, EQ2 is a whole nother monster compared to EQ1. I have adopted the "fresh" idea to help myself, the same concept I use for remade movies. You have to think of it as a totally different game, or you are gonna get hung up on comparisons and it will ruin it for you. GL.

Actually it doesn't because you need to be older than 12 to sign up for this site so why you would ever fathom me being a 12 year old is beyond me. My girlfriend is 12 however
