    Default EQ2 Nebie Questions

Greetings all. Played EQ way back when and now enjoying pass on EQ 2 Live AB server. Have level 20 necro and sk trying out and enjoying them immensely. Iím solo player and have a few beginner questions.

1)What is the formula to calculate what level a mob goes gray? Iíve heard it grows from 2-5 levels in between the different con levels depending on your level but wanted clarification.

2)Iím VERY interested in going at a slow pace to enjoy the content (especially dungeon crawling) however Iíd like to be able to do it soloing. Since Iím new and have no cash for adept III, would I still be able to take on a level 20^^^ before it turns gray? I plan on putting all xp into AAs to get tainted heals for example on necro. I just would like to be able to solo some of the group stuff without it graying out on me.

3)Would it be worth it to be a sage on my necro for instance in order to get adept 3 cheaper?

4)Extended vs. Live- Since Iím very into soloing I do like that things are pretty empty. Is there any advantage being on one versus the other (assuming you are gold on extended)?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

    1) There are so many different answers I have heard to this it is ridiculous. It is not on the EQ1 formula though but close.

    2) A newbie won't be able to do any heroic zones without a decent group or a mentor any more. If you're going to solo or dual box, just stay in the overland zones.

    3) No, not unless you also keep your harvesting up too. If you do both, then it will be much cheaper and easier.

    4) I would suggest Live. Extended you get nickel and dimed for everything you do, Live you pay that one fee for full access to the game. On the flip side, if you enjoy one-shotting mobs with a stick you can buy in the marketplace extended is where you want to be.

    Hope that helps!
I may not like what you have to say, but I've already taken a bullet for your right to say it.

For 2 doing heroic mobs is less about spells and more about armor and weps. As you are new i am assuming you cant purchase them easily from the broker. I suggest you go and harvest a lot to get rares. The rares you get can be either sold (if you dont use yourself) or even turned into adept 3's for yourself. However if you get enough to make armor and weps you will notice a HUGE difference in survival. Once you do that wait until the mobs are green (9 to 10 levels below you). At i believe 11 or 12 levels below you it goes grey. So green just about grey will be the easiest for you to kill if it is heroic. You wont be doing any yellow heroics without either help from group or mentor.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I just need to accept that I wonít be able to solo group content, but doesnít mean I wonít try! Was just hoping to solo it before mobs gray out. Iím sure a guild would be great to seek out at some point cause Iím sure Iíd learn a lot and I have been in guilds in all my mmos.

I did have another question. It sounds like one should probably level to 30+ with a class to see if they like it or not. I plan on doing that with the classes that have made the cut for me, but was curious how good that advice is. True 30 probably doesnít take long, but there are so many classes Iím trying out, and I donít get to play as much as Iíd like to. Mage and priest archetype seem to be where a concentration of those classes that make the cut are. Iíd like to get to a point rather quickly where Iím just enjoying my ďmainĒ for a bit!

On the necro get tainted heals asap. In order to solo heroic mobs on the necro you will need at least the expert (adept3) tank pet as well. I would start harvesting for rares.

It caps at 10 levels once you level up a bit. I'm sure it's 10 levels post 50, but it's been a long time since I've paid attention below that.

Actually, live servers are the non-nickel and dime option. Flat fee for all content up front with a once a year additional cost for expacs. No teired pricing schemes.

If you play off and on and you think you probably will never get to end game then go with extended. If you play pretty consistently and will want access to the whole game then DEFINITELY go live. The only way to get access to the latest expansion, in the current case DoV, is to go with the platinum access which forces you to get not only a subscription which gold access also requires but also to do it year to year and for a price that is $20 more than 12mo x $15. Pay extra? and in advance is the only way to get all the content? and this subscription you are paying is for servers that are fully cashshopped. Paying a sub to play a f2p cashshop game is dumb enough but pay more and upfront? Apparently the new market demographic for EQ2X is grown crack babies with trust funds. The pricing structure for extended is truly the worst deal I have ever seen in a game. Even in a f2p game.

To OP- you *will* be able to solo heroic content. It might not always be at level, but if you keep up with your gear then definitely before it greys out. Class, gear, and AA all plays into it. You also have the option and higher levels to chronomentor down several teirs and wipe through heroic content in god-mode.
