    Hello,

When I reached 90 on Irving after 15 months of levelling, I found myself in a similar situation to what you describe. I had never been at the level cap, so I wasn't familiar with what folks did once they got there. I wound up turning to a guild mate for advice, and have been very successful as a level 90 Coercer, I think.

    1) Your first goal should be to acquire all the top level PQ armor pieces and weapons.

    2) You should make it a goal to run one of:

    - The Hold of Rime: Forgotten Pools
    - The Hold of Rime: Ascent
    - Crystalline Caverns (which is found in Eastern Wastes)

...once a day. From these three entry-level zones you will acquire weapons, jewelry, armor pieces, and Primal Velium Shards. To run these, first you have to find a group. Generally speaking, you need a tank, a healer, and 4 other random folks who are not tanks or healers. On Antonia Bayle, we generally speak of four categories:

    - tanks
    - healers
    - DPS
    - utility

Utility is enchanters and bards. DPS is everyone who's not a tank or healer (including enchanters and bards).

You can just watch 80-89 ("Pools group seeks Tank then GTG!", in which case you /tell the advertiser, "Berserker LFG Pools!"), or form your own groups ("Tank wants to run Ascent: need healer and 4 others! PST!").

    3) A long-term goal is to acquire sets of 25 Primal Velium Shards for Ry'Gorr Armor (20 to make armor with, 5 to purchase a yellow adorn for that piece of armor). With that goal comes the necessity of running instance in Kael Drakkael (Iceshard Keep, Throne of Storms, and The Temple of Rallos Zek). The gems you need to make Ry'Gorr Armor only drop in Kael Drakkael instances. (Rich, lazy people can buy them from the broker.)

You must always keep in mind the methods of obtaining Primal Velium Shards:

    - Each instance should net you a minimum of three shards. One shard comes from completing the daily quest for that zone. One shard comes from killing the "key mob" (a specific, typically hidden mob who will always drop a key to a locked shard chest). One shard comes from the end boss. Try and familiarize yourself with the location of the daily quest givers for each of the zones. Ask in <Safe Haven> if you'd like help, or ask in 80-89.

    - Get 10,000 faction with The City of Thurgadin, then visit the NPC above Thurgadin Harbor who offers a daily (every 18 hours) quest for a single player to obtain one shard. The solo shard quest is well-designed, doesn't take too long, and there entrance is right behind the quest giver.

    - Familiarize yourself with the "Daily Double" and the "Weekly" shard quests. In the same area above Thurgadin Harbor as the solo shard NPC are two Mission Master NPCs. One offers the "Daily Double", which gives you two shards ("double") for killing a boss in a specific zone. The EQ2 welcome screen tells you what today's Daily Double is (80-89 calls this the DD). The other NPC offers you a weekly shard quest that rewards 8, 10, or 12 shards (depending on which quest it is). At the very beginning, you are specifically looking for the weekly quest called Velketor's Labyrinth, which is a quest to kill the end bosses of Pools, Ascent, and the third instance, The Hold of Rime: Fortress Spire (which is a much more difficult zone than Pools or Ascent, and not one I recommend you be the main tank for until you're comfortable tanking instances).

    4) It's important you get to 277 AAs. The 277th point allows you to buy your final Heroic Line AA. For many classes, the 23 points after that are all gravy. Even though you'll be having fun doing PQs and running instances and collecting shards, you won't be getting a lot of AA. So balance out the PQs and instances and shard runs with good old fashioned questing. The quests in Icy Fingers, Great Divide, and Eastern Wastes will not only yield you a lot of AA, but will pretty consistently upgrade gear slots for you (especially jewelry and secondary/ranged).

Note that this doesn't change with GU61. You're already level 90, so the GU61 changes don't affect you in this regard.

    5) You need to learn your class. You are a tank, but you are a tank who does his damage through AoEs. It's important you tell your group mates that you're new to level 90, so that they can guide you on the strategy for instances, and so that their expectations of your abilities are properly set. Most DoV groups I'm in expect the tank to lead the way, so if you're new, someone(s) will guide you until you've learned what to do. [A well-geared character (even a mage!) is able to pick up your slack, and if he knows you're new and still learning, he'll know to look out for trouble, and assist accordingly.]

With learning your class comes the necessity of ensuring all your CAs are expert. You should also set a long-term of obtaining all masters. Drops, trades, and the broker are all good sources of masters. You have a lot to get, so it will take a few months, but the effort is worth it.

    6) Finally, a few quick words about PuGs. In my experience, PuGs can be quite rewarding. PuGs have been responsible for me finding some of my best EQ2 friends. That said, my early experiences with PuGs in DoV were culture shock for me. I found myself grouping with foul-mouthed immature folks who were good at playing their characters, but who I found almost offensive in their demeanor. That was a rocky stretch for me. Over time, however, I settled into a routine of grouping with the same folks over and over, and now I enjoy both a nightly instance group and a bi-weekly raid group. I still join random PuGs, and they're still inconsistent, but for the most part, my experiences on Antonia Bayle have been mostly very positive.

I'm now glad I made 90, stuck with it despite my early frustration, and am now getting to enjoy a very rich gaming experience night-in and night-out.

    I hope I covered everything!

    Best regards,
    Irving

Fair warning- People in pugs tend to have very little patience with tanks so starting out as a brand new 90 zerker might be difficult for you.

That's if he can even get in a group, I'm a 90 sk and when started heavily farming instances it wasn't easy to get a group at all.... People tend to try and stick with "tanks they know work".
    Here is my advise....

MAKE groups for Ascent , Pools and SC. Get yourself a good healer, 3 dps and either a bard or chanter type.
When you start the instance, and your group is now gathered and ready to blast off- ask them if there is anything specific you should know about an encounter to just go over it quick.
Simple as that, nothing complex and straight to the point.

If you aren't honest up front the group will think you know what your doing... And when you should be ready to grab X mob or watch out for mobs that bounce aggo or whatever the script may be for a mob... You're gonna get the whole group dead. Pools has a lot of script and so does a Lot of the DoV zones.

Good luck .. There is a Lot of good advice in this thread for you.
