Default combat arts that replace spells

Should have figured this out long ago...

When you have a combat art that "replaces" a spell, does improving (via the research assistant) the spell improve the CA?

For example, the Inquisitor Strike of Corruption CA "replaces" the Smite Corruption spell, in that it shares a reuse timer with it, and they both use the same button icon. Even so, you can still put both on your hotbars at once. The spells usually have longer ranges than the CAs, so I put them on my hotbars in the row above my regular cast progression, but I hardly ever use them, and am wondering if there's any point in trying to "master" them.

Not 100% sure on inq stuff, but i'm guessing you're talking about AA choices, and your answer is no. The only reason to master them is for the reason you stated, or just because you wanna be mastered out.
It's only weird if it doesn't work.
