I think this is a totally laudable idea... although I don't envy the headache it will be for many. Aaaand unfortunately, I think I fall into that category. I just came back to the game after some time off (insert incarceration joke here) - I'm about a day or two away from 80 Brig and am currenty unguilded. It seems like everyone and their cousin has a brigand now, so finding a spot in raiding guild is going to be a lot tougher than I thought it would be. That leaves the unbridled joy of the pickup raid!
I couldn't agree more about being surprised/saddened by the number of people making it to the level cap and still playing like they're fresh off the boat. And don't get me wrong - I've definitely fit into that category at times. I betrayed from Swash to Brig and had to unlearn what I had learned and learn my class anew. Then I put the game down and came back. There's a lot that's changed since I left and it's been a learning process to adapt, but I think a big part of being a good player is all about constantly adapting and looking for that edge.
I know it's a game and it's supposed to be fun, but I'd like to hope that people signing up for a random raid would put in the same amount of effort and work as they would want from everyone else. Being part of a raiding guild (or any guild for that matter) is a serious commitment in the long term and pickup raids should be the same, but in a short term kind of way. Although all those things coming together at once by 24 people is almost certainly a sign of the apocalypse or something. But hey - apocalypses are fun, too.
At any rate, win or lose, I'll give it a shot. I'll be the Wood Elf standing next to the other 4 brigands.
