You do realize that if you play EQ2 on max settings, that it actually looks really, really good, right? Just because most people still seem to run on gumby mode for some reason doesn't mean the game isn't graphically impressive when rendered correctly.
You can run EQ2 on max textures, shaders, and shadows on a box that now costs less than $1500. You don't need a $4-5k power system to do this shit.
$195, CPU: Intel E8400, OC to 4.0Ghz
$150, Mobo: Any DFI or other enthusiast level mobo
$290, RAM: 8GB of PC8500+
$450, GPU: 8800 Ultra
$100, OS: Vista 64-bit
Those are my core specs. Fill in the rest of the parts with whatever crap you want, those are the ones that directly affect graphics performance anyway. I run at 2560x1600 on a 30" monitor and the when doing solo or group stuff the game is fluid with
everything maxed. I turn off shadows and particles in raids (it's still fluid with particles on but they're distracting anyway).
Compared to the gumby mode that many of us (myself included) were running on at release (and unfortunately still today, for some people) it's literally like a whole new game when you can turn everything up. It's visually stunning. =)
