Default WAR

Does anyone know when open beta starts? I've looked at the offical site, and tried to navigate some fan sites....but...

All I can come up with is that it will be released in Fall 2008.

I'm thinking that since they haven't released all the info for the classes and stuff that there isn't any real date when it might start, but hey - i figured maybe somone saw something I didn't.

Anyone else planning on playing it? We preordered ours, and are chomping at the bit Blackguard, of course..

WAR devs = smarter than EQ2 devs: EA Mythic | Warhammer Herald

There’s a lot of potential for time loss and frustration in animation. On the world art side, if someone comes along and says a certain rock texture in the game has too much moss on it, an artist will go and repaint part of it and check it back in. Then every building, wall, fountain, etc. in the game that's using that texture just looks less mossy. If someone decides late in the process that the female Dwarf’s butt sticks out too far when she’s just standing around, an animator (similarly) has to change that motion and check it back in. Then he has to make the exact same change to every other motion in the game that starts and/or ends with that pose. This could easily link into hundreds of motions. This is why we've set up our pipeline so that each Grip has a file. If there's a skeleton issue, a pose change, or any number of things that have been overlooked, that change only has to be made in a few files, instead of hundreds, and re-exported with the (overly-simplified-for-effect) push of a button.
And yet here we are, years later, still waiting for a skeletal system revamp for EQ2.

Yeah nice find, sure the eq2 devs made some design mistakes along way, and i'm sure they realise it too, all part of the learning i suppose. It's probably similar to the reasons why the war devs did that. I'm even pretty sure there would be some ex SOE employees working on WAR

One thing eq2 was never short of though is beauty, its a damn gorgeous looking game, even by todays standards. They made it so complex that adding new content probably takes 10x the work.

Default Re: WAR

It's more than 10x the work. For every new armor model, it has to be customized to fit every race at every size with every possible variation you can pick, without clipping through the character or anything. And they have to do it all by hand. Multiply that all by however many races EQ2 has (19?) and you have a LOT of work.

And who cares how good the game looks when it still lags even on the best of computers you can buy today? Most people I talked to before quitting dropped everything down to extreme performance half the time, particularly during raids, at which point it looks like claymation more than game graphics.
