Default Re: vid card question for AoC

Niber is right on the money. It would be an exercise it futility to try and play AoC with that PC. I wouldn't recommend anything under an 8800GT 512MB.

8500 gt will piss you off and ruin the game. I could only stand about 30 mins before i went to the store and picked up a 8800 gts OC. A world of difference.

No matter what card you run AoC with, you're likely to get shitty FPS. Case in point: I'm running an X1550 512mb card, 2gb ram, and dual-core AMD at 2.7ghz. I get around 20 fps in the wilds, and maybe 10 in the city. My roomie is running two 8600 GT's in SLI, 4 gigs of ram, and an Intel dual-core at 3.-something ghz. She actually gets lower performance than I do.

If you thought EQ2 was unoptimized, AoC is worse.

yea but for that low quality 256 extra ram is huge man. also i think by the time athlons were that fast they were starting to use the ####+ rating system, so chances are the cpu was preforming like a 2+ghz pentium 4 or something. again, a huge difference, unless i have my cpu history wrong. that stuff is so old by todays standards i cant remember tbh

No sir, the Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHz exists. The AthlonXP 1600 was a 1.4GHz chip however.

As was mentioned above, anything less than an 8800 is going to piss you off. Not to mention the fact you are running an AMD proc *groan*.

I get 30-40+ fps in most every situation on high quality. The game runs oh so smooth 99% of the time. Why you ask? I run Intel, an 8800, and more RAM. Don't even get me started on Radeons.

You get what you pay for.

Your setup is junk, that's why your fps sucks.

Have your friend drop those 8600's and their fps will skyrocket probably.
