Re: AoC = Fail
Honestly, I never had issues with patches lowering performance. However, this latest patch today has allowed me to run on high settings minus shadows and still come out with a 10 FPS gain over my incredibly tweaked out undocumented settings like forcing low detail shaders. Lowering settings such as draw distance yields me even more.
It sucks that there were huge performance issues to begin with, but at least Funcom's actually dealing with them unlike some other company. If they keep it up this game will be amazing imho.

Re: AoC = Fail
there have been some groups of players where they have really reduced bugs and playability issues for, my wife has no problem playing this game, where, just a couple weeks ago, crashes were every 10-20 min, and there were 4 distinct types of errors giving her grief separately and together. She used to have to ask me to log off so she could use my computer to run her character through tarantia because she just couldn't on her PC, and that has gone away.
I have some problems on my machine with everything set on high, I usually get an error at least once per launch which reduces my video performance slightly, it will swhut off grass and reduce ground textures, but thatis it, , but it still allows me to play. There are also times of random "screen goes black, hard boot the computer to fix" which seem to be particle related, because of when they happen (such as when I play on my Demo in a volcoanic area, or am in a group of several casters)
There are still bugs, and I could dumb down my video and play, but I got tired of doing that after 4 years of turning shit down in eq2 and only seeing half the game. I can play in conan for HOURS on high and suffer occasional crashes... I'll be fine with that till I start raiding.
Overall, I have not been disappointed in the game so far. I seem to have chosen the two classes that I'll end up being most sorry for having chosen (one because it's not that powerful in the end game, and the other because it's nerfed regularly.) But I enjoy the game and see a lot of potential for the next year or so's worth of play.

Re: AoC = Fail
Lol @ SWG... You could also be the biggest-fattest wookie entertainer and spend your days doing the robot in out of the way cantinas in backwater worlds. That was Hilarious... for the first 10 min seeing it.
SWG was one of those that I felt "coulda been great" but it launched with so many bugs, and I was in beta and saw plenty of them, that I didn't want to keep going. Many folk really enjoyed SWG eventually, but just like AoC... WoW, EQ1, EQ2... shit, every mmo ever... it had it's fair share of bugs, and I knew about them before I had to spend money.

The best SWG bug would have to be where you could pick up anything sans buildings from everywhere. Having a Tatooine market stand in your house ftw!

Re: AoC = Fail
Found an article in Virgin Worlds about the first PVP siege in AOC done last week:
PFB did the server's first siege (world first?) this morning at 6am EST on LOTD, a few Sinister who were online decided to take the opportunity to see how "polished" siege warfare was. The naysayers were pretty much deadon. It took little time to break down the main gate (max of 4-5 mins), buildings in general go down really fast with the full raid on them. Siege weapons don't work yet, and the mercenary system isn't in (we had to drop our guild for the siege in order to not kill each other even in the same raid). Keeps still have vunerable areas where you can just run past the walls (on the LOTD keep it was on the right side of the outer wall). After breaching the outer wall we ran into the major problem (I guess?) of sieging. LAG. I run a quad core 2.4ghz 2 gig ram and a 8800GT, and I had a solid 2-3fps once we engaged (btw i spent 500 dollars upgrading my pc for this game). Trying to actually fire combos and kill anyone was virtually impossible unless they were rooted."

Hopefully they will work on this.

Re: AoC = Fail
Right after that seige occured, the patcher news page was one of the developer's (or head developer?) Talking about how it was terrible, and they are going to work quickly to fix sieges etc etc.
Even if it takes a few weeks to fix, at least they've acknowledged and informed the community. That sort of behaviour alone makes Funcom shine to me.

Re: AoC = Fail
"You're blind as fuck if you think they nerfed 1 class.. They nerfed the god damn least played class. DT... the nerfs continue to roll in for classes that don't deserve them."
My response to that:
My main is a DT, the only thing they nerfed was mystical bane, and I don't use it on a regular basis anyway so really haven't noticed a difference. Did you note the love we got last week for buffing? Or check the notes from this morning, tempests got the bat, and necros got the love...
