Re: Age of Conan
The Short version is the game rules if you have a decent computer. I've never seen more stunning graphics in an MMO, and the soundtrack is first rate as well.
Now that they fixed the bankers/trader/mailbox I find it pretty enjoyable. There are definitely some bugs but what do you expect in week 2 of release? The question will be how effectively and quickly they squash them, and respond to their player base. A game with spectacular Customer service would change the landscape of MMOs, as no company currently in the market can even Say that they have even average CS (compared to anything other then another MMO), with a straight face.
I would not recommend a PvP server. Much like WoW there is a Ton of PvP built into the game, even on a regular server, and all a PvP server gets you, is the ability to gank and be ganked by a max level character, while trying to level up your alt.
Border Kingdoms and Arena matches are where its at for PvP, and those are accessible on normal servers.

Actually, in all my experiences. Turbine's CS team is top notch. Quick and knowledgable responses within an hour of putting the petition(s) in.
Clearly it doesnt change the land scape of all mmo's tho ;p

Actually if AO is any indication of the way Funcom is going to approach CS, I'd take it over SoE any day and I wouldn't be surprised if FC made improvements to their already better than SoE CS since AO. Hell I wonder if some of my old FC pals from AO are working on AOC?!?! I think I definitely have to go get this game.

Re: Age of Conan
Actually, I think funcom is duffing the petition system right now, I've seen threads over on the AoC forums (which i can't get to from work, so no links atm) where folks are out PLAYING the game, harvesting, getting kills, all showing up on a chat window that they've done so, 10 lines or so showing, followed by a note from the GM "hey, sorry to see you're not online right now, I can't help if you're not online, so I'm closing the ticket. If you need more help, try doing a search on the anarchy online forums before filing another petition"
lol. Not only are they just brushing people off with bullshit, they're sending them to forums for a completely different game to do their search... classic, and a good indicator that they've just kept the same GM's and added an extra game for them to support, rather than hiring any new ones for the new game.
But the game is pretty damned enjoyable. I have ONE bug... just one. If I stand still for too long, or spend too much time in character creation, my screen goes black and won't do anything without a full reboot. Too long or too much time is 5 min+

Re: Age of Conan
Ive had a petition take over 4 hours to get responded to, and I was 7th on the /pet status list when I first put it in. Although the gm was pretty knowledgable and helpful once he finally got to me. The bugs and overworked customer service team doesnt bother me too much at the moment though, its pretty standard to release these games before the fine tunning is done and it usualy clears up after the first few months.
What does bother me is some itemization issues and the fact that so far it just feels like it wasnt designed for the long term. I could be wrong, Ive only played for 3 nights and am at level 30 so I havent come close to seeing it all, but its just the feel I get from it.

Re: Age of Conan
Most people are saying 15 hours to 30. I've had 24 hours of play in and hit 27, but I think that's because I haven't been willing to move around.
I made an Aquilonian... and I've been doing as much as possible Aquilonian only... Staying in the Wild lands, even when quests were 4+ levels above me. If I had moved around to Stygia and Cimmeria as I was levelling, Yeah, I would probably be 40 or 50 right now, but I think that when a game is tough, it's fun. I died 11 times soloing an instance 5 levels above me last night and loved every minute of it. I've got the timing down good, I can easily combo, I'm not overswinging after the mob dies like I was the first few levels... I've figured out the first couple tiers of my feats... things are going well. It's a good game that i expect to see people playing for a while. No, it's not going to take 3 months to get to 80, though I wish it took a little longer... I think that the quest xp should be toned down to about 70% of where it is now, And quest drops made slightly more rare so there's more killing and less running.
I'm hoping they do some freebie updates LOTRO style, releasing new stuff every 3 months or so. First they need to nail down the bugs.
It's good that they've already hit some cheaters/plat buyers with the ban stick. Or taking away ALL of their coin, and not just whay they bought. Hopefully they keep up on that. You'll never get a cheater free MMO unless you just remove the need for coin and items in the game, and then you've got a game that isn't worth playing.

Re: Age of Conan
Ok, I made 5 levels in like 6 hours today.
Leveling is definitely better if you have an AE class with you and can slaughter 20 mobs every 15 seconds :P

Re: Age of Conan
so what looks to be some of the best classes so far. And what classes specifically in the healer or mage category look to be like they will be the most desired for raiding later in the game.

Thats really hard to say.
PoM (Priest of Mitra) look to be great healers, same with ToS (Tempest of Set). Bear shamans are good too but more melee focused.
Necro's and Demonologists are getting a bump real soon (details here Upcoming changes to Demo and Necro. - AoC Unrated)
Herals of Xotli is a melee caster, i have never played one so I dunno.
As for required for raiding, who knows at this point, i am sure ALL classes are gonna have a job, and will go through lots of changes between now and then.
i just hope they dont fuck up PVE by balancing for PVP. Every game that I have come across that has PVE and PVP fucks up PVE because of how they balance stuff for PVP.
