OK... fact and fiction.

Fact: crafting will be simplistic and uninvolved

Fiction: "FC gave up on crafting".

I've been following the game for almost 3 years now, from teh very start the crafting system was never going to be full-fledged. it was always going to be a simplistic side-thing to be done at higher levels.

So it's not that they gave up on crafting, it's that they never planned to have a system like SWG or any game with heavy crafting. If you look at their previous MMO - which remains one of the most complex and deep in the industry - you will see that entire crafting sytem consists on clicking 2 items together once you've leveled up and put some skill points into crafting. Crafting is not FC's thing. AoC crafting was designed to be advanced via questing rather than via making 60000000000 "Simple Mousetail Belt"s.

Anyhow, so yes, crafting will most definitely be "half-assed" by other games' standards. But it's never been planned otherwise. No need to feel all betrayed about it

As far as it being rewarding, I believe the plan is still in place for crafted items to be the only ones slottable and therefore required for certain tasks.

about the whole US censorship thing.. it makes me sad. can't wait till Clinton is president and we're all playing "Happy Playtime Disney Hugging MMO" because any mention of sex and violence is banned.

If you have been following this game for 3 years, then you realize it has changed and changed and changed, allot! Why? well you dont change something that is working, right?

They cant get this game to work. There is zero evidence that this will be the next great game.

The delays speak to the disorgainzed and failings of this company on this game.

All we have is a great concept, "low magic adult type gore game" But even that concept i was reading is out the window, now, where every class uses magic and goofy animation, ie when you swing your sword, there is like bright red lights or something lol.

I have to agree, I think this is going to be the next Vanguard.

None of the things that made me want to play this game have changed since it was first announced.

Combat system was changed based on feedback. I've no idea if it's better or worse than the old, but either way it's still a skill-based system vastly different from other MMOs. So nominally no change to me.

The fact that some lore-hounds have their panties in a bunch because spell-casting has a (lo and behold!) magicky-looking animation doesn't bother me one bit, because honestly, i could't give less shit about the relative brightness of a fireball as compared to theoretical "low-fantasy" threshhold of people's imaginations. The game was announced with 5 magic classes and 5 magic-based healers, if people thought there wasn't going to be magic, they are retards and it's no one's fault but theirs.

Delays and so forth are as concerning to me as anyone else. ON the other hand, the fact that they DIDN'T delay vanguard is (one of the things) that killed it, so it could go either way.

I honestly, don't think AoC will be the "next wow", nor did i ever think that. I am hoping AoC will be the next great niche game. Not for everyone, but great for those that play it. Or it might suck. If it sucks, at least it will suck trying something new. Vanguard managed to have zero innovation and still totally suck.

What hasn't changed:

- Different combat system with no auto-attack and based on directions and combos.

- 3-way endgame featuring Raiding, PvE Cities and PvP Sieges.

- Darker theme with blood, gore and nudity.

Those are the things that make me want to play this game. They were the same 3 years ago and are the same today. But hey, that's me. If someone wanted to play the game for the "uber and in-depth crafting", then they're fucked. I just don't remember crafting depth EVER being mentioned as something even planned, or maybe it's just cause i don't care about it.

Unless it looks like a total train wreck just before release, i'll probably pre-order it and play it from the start.

Now weather they keep me paying month after month for more then the first 3 months or so, that depends on how good they have made the game.

Hey, apparently Funcom (or whoever pushes their crack) spent a bunch of bling on full page ads on the backs of some gaming magazines and such, stating that May 20th is the release date. Hopefully now that they have actually spent a bunch of cash on ads and such they really really really mean it this time .
