I think WoW's art direction is one of it's strongest points. It's the reason they can cater to 90% of the world's population and raiders can run at 90 fps. Being functional is extremely important.

I agree being functional is important. Very easy to see that EQ2 fucked things up in the fact that it has amazing graphics that i never see because i have to raid on ghetto settings.

On the other hand, i can at least avoid puking when looking at the ghetto settings of EQ2, WoW looks terrible regardless of what settings I'm on.

Again it's a matter of taste. Some people like the colour blue more than red, it doesn't make one colour better than the other. and for the people who can't stand the colour red, it really doesn't matter how well red runs on their system.

But anyhow, lots of threads about WoW out there. This one is about AoC. I am not 100% sold on the animations and character bodies, but general world, creatures and character faces look absolutely stellar.

My Warlocks gear in WoW looks way better than any gear my Coercer ever had in EQ2.

"Art direction" encompasses many things, not just super realism. I find WOW's art direction to be far superior than EQ2's. I make that judgement according to the details. WOW has tons of details, little things, that arent all earth shaking on their own, but placed side by side, makes the game graphics, as simplified as they are, very interesting. EQ2 graphics began to bore me towards the end. So yes, its a matter of taste and after playing both games I find that Im not that hung up on realism anymore. If given a choice I would rather have more interesting design elements.

There was a new supposedly magic patch that fixed performance released the other day. I havent tried it yet - i gave up after downloading 50 gigs of patches over the months (Yes, instead of patching files, we had to redownload the new files). I must've downloaded the whole game 4 times by now.

Everytime a patch comes out it's like "Fuck me, not another 4 gig patch" lol

I guess ill leave it go tonight and d/l the 8 gigs im behind on.

Some people had huge increases, others had no increases. But this still isnt the final build. They actually test stuff internally =0.
