This game is going to suck. The combat is horrible, really just terrible. Their many innovations end up getting in the way of what was supposed to be a game for the casual gamer, often making it difficult to use. The many things that made this game sound good in the press have been dropped in beta, including one of it's fundamental ideas - being a single player game until level 20. This is no longer the case, as you're out of single player mode withing a couple of hours now. However, it does maintain that you have to get to 20 until you pick your class... and we all know how well that worked in EQ2...

It's also being developed for the 360. To me, any game that is developed with a console in mind doesn't fair well on a PC. Think about it, the controls are going to have be so easy to use, you could play it with a gamepad. Easy is good for some games, but is a bad choice for MMOs in my opinion.

Not to mention it's published by Funcom. I say fuck Funcom.

How can ya say the combat is terrible? Unless ya really like just button mashing that much. And it has been said that the 360 version will not be joined with the PC version. Ive been following AOC since Nov 05 and the only difference in the leveling single player mode has been the amount of time it takes to hit 20 by 10 to 15 game play hours.
You have to realize just because you dont choose your class at 20 doesnt mean it's the same as eq2's format was. Choose your race, at 20 choose your class, at 40 you choose a "sub class" for crafting at 60 another archtype and at 80 yet another archtype. So every 20 levels you get to customize more and more. I guess you can argue that it's the same as EQ2's aa lines but it won't be. If ya want cookie cutter classes and comparable players this game wont be for you. This game is going to be purley about player skill and individual customization and that is one HUGE step in the right direction IMHO.

The change to single-player was made by request of the community. It used to be that you had no access to shared areas during first 20 levels. What has happened now is that your single-player story takes place at night and during the day you have access to shared areas. The single-player story is still all there, just has been tweaked.

Given the gameplay, the game was designed from the start (i've been following it a long time) to be compatible with a joystick / controller, this actually makes it easier to port to a console not harder. The only MMO ive played that was console compatible was FFXI. Personally, i hated FFXI, but none of my problems with it were console-related and it seemed to get really good reviews and high ratings at the time.

But if you dont like FC to start with, its not surprising that you dont like it. Out of the 15+ MMOs ive played so far, Funcom has made the best one, so I have high hopes and a lot of faith in the company. On the other hand, If you thought AO was garbage, chances are you wont like something made by the same DEVs.

The main thing about this game I dislike is the members of the messageboards. These guys are fucking RABID! They want this game to play like a movie, and think that it can without lag. Crackheads, i swear. There's so much hatred for anyone who hasn't been registered since 2006, and alot of really fucking ridiculous posts, making requests like "Make the blood more realistic" and "Can we get a special uncensored version for Europe?" and "How will the wind be drawn?" and other utter nonsense.

I am likely to pick it up, tho not at launch. I'll let it settle and get some reviews before I plunk down any money on it. I like the lore alot and I could see myself fitting into it, but from the likes of it, its going to be very easy to level, and aside from the PVP, it sounds like for those who have lots of time to play, you'll probably run out of stuff to do. Its geared for people who play 10 hours a week. I play 3-4 times that!

*shrug* I play less when I have other things to do. For now, this is a hobby I enjoy, and I share it with my boyfriend. I have no problems not logging in when I have shit to do. But I'm a lazy shit so I play alot. Plus if its something I enjoy, I play more. If I'm not having fun, I find something else to do.

Yep.

I have - Atari 1100, Nes, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, GameBoy Color, GameBoy DS, GameBoy Special Pikachu Edition (what, it had Eeve on it, my favorite one), Virtual Boy, Sega Gensis, Sega Handheld, Sega Saturn, PS1, PS2, Xbox (modded so I can play all the older games I want without having to break out the system for it) and several PC games I don't feel like going through.

Hubby and I are currently saving up for the new 360.
