Default Why have a pally in a raid?

A serious question before I get flamed to hell...

Im not familiar with the pally class at all.

Ive never played a plate fighter before and want to know why a raid group should ever need a Paladin?

No reason to flame you. It's a valid question that many paladins themselves ask. And the only honest answer I have for you is to be an really good OT.

Because they can sub in for anything basically. They can solo heal a group if necessary, they can tank, they can help heal an under geared tank be better, they can main tank, or they can help with tanking adds if given proper classes.

Same quesiton can be asked of MT

"If you have a MT already why have a guardian"

When it comes down the nitty gritty of the buffs vs buffs a Paladin is the perfect OT in the same way a Guardian is the perfect MT.
